American Legion Auxiliary 158
The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 158 met Sept. 5 at the legion hall for a meeting and ice cream social. President Carolyn Myer presided over the meeting. There were seven officers, 10 members and a guest present.
Nancy Prince, secretary-treasurer, read the minutes and treasurer's report from the previous month. Both were approved as read.
Rosalee Sides, membership chairman, reported there are 159 paid members of the auxiliary.
There were 45 pints of blood collected at the blood drive held in August and another blood drive will be held in October.
Auxiliary members served donuts and coffee and helped with bingo at the Missouri Veterans Home in August.
A donation of $25 was given to the Muscular Dystrophy Telethon and a donation of $500 will be given to Missouri Veterans Home gift shop for the veterans' Christmas.
Correspondence was received from girls who attended Girls State and from a girl who received a scholarship.
Upcoming dates to remember are, bingo at the veterans home at 2 p.m. Sept. 20; donuts served at the veterans' home at 9 a.m. Sept. 29; the next meeting which is the trick or treat meeting at 10 a.m. Oct. 3; and a blood drive Oct. 16.
The Lamplighters FCE Club met Aug. 17 at the home of Jackie Kurre. JoAnn Hahs, president, presided over the meeting. It was announced that August was a month to focus on one's health. The basics: quality sleep, nutritious food, adequate water and daily exercise were discussed.
It was reported that there will be a shower for Birthright at the September meeting.
A report was given by Bert Seyer and Verla Mangels who met to confer about the quilt to be used as a fundraiser. They squared the quilt blocks which were later pieced together and sewn by Mary Seyer, daughter of Bert.
New Early Reader books purchased by monies from a HEED Grant and matching club funds were presented to Riverside Regional Library in Jackson.
Club dues and 2007 enrollment forms were collected.
Sharon Bogenpohl gave the program "Does your engine purr?"
The next meeting will be Sept. 20.
