Oak Ridge FCE Homemakers Club met on Aug. 16 at the Elks Club in Jackson. The meeting was called to order by Jean Rehak, president. The devotion, "Sewing Seeds," was given by Marilyn Retherford. Roll call was answered by 14 members who responded to the question of, "What's your way of saving money?" Two new members, Vickie Scherer and Susie Green, were welcomed to the club.
Peggy Barks, secretary, read the minutes of the July meeting, which were approved as read. Pat Hecht, treasurer, gave the treasurer's report, which also was approved. Members were reminded of the MAFCE Annual Conference Sept. 28 through 30 in Osage Beach, Missouri, at The Inn at Grand Glaize. Membership dues for 2017 were collected, as well as Pennies for Friendship. The club voted the project for August would be giving money to a local family to aid them in medical expenses.
It was announced that four members of the club would be attending the State MAFCE Convention: Barbara Barks, Peggy Barks, Betty Dellinger and June Peetz.
Retherford presented the program, "Money! Where Does It Go?", and offered tips on how to save, how to shop and how to use a budget. A reporter from the local newspaper interviewed several longtime members of the club, took pictures of various old books, etc., and is going to write a story about the history of the Oak Ridge Homemakers for her newspaper. A very enjoyable time was spent reminiscing!
The next regular meeting will be held in October at the home of Billie Criddle.
The Lamplighter FCE Club met Aug. 18 at the home of JoAnn Hahs, president. She called the meeting to order. Hahs gave the devotion, titled, "The Black Dot." Roll call was answered by members telling "What I appreciate about technology." Verla Mangels read the minutes of the previous meeting; Linda Sebaugh gave the treasurer's report and both were approved.
Unfinished business: The club had a table at the Osage Yard Sale and a profit was made. Books for the Newborn were delivered last month to the hospitals by Karen Eakers and Teresa Hinkebein. Shower items for Love INC were shown so members would have an idea what to donate.
Judy Strickland suggested several ideas for programs to be presented next year. These ideas will be discussed at the vice presidents' planning meeting, which Stickland will be attending at the Perry County Extension Office.
Announcements: The MAFCE Conference will be held Sept. 27 through 30 at the Inn of Grand Glaize in Osage Beach, Missouri. The Fall District Meeting will be Oct. 18 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri.
Strickland presented the program on technology and Hearth Fire No. 58.
Birthday celebrants for the month were Teresa Hinkebein and Verla Mangels. Refreshments were served and the meeting was concluded. Teresa Hinkebein will host the Sept. 15 meeting at 1 p.m.
