Frasher gave the treasurer's report on our regular chapter account and our chapter scholarship account. $1,000 was previously sent to the MAA from our scholarship account to cover the cost of our $1,000 chapter scholarship.

Simon reported on the Tiger Pride Award. A letter was received from Jason Meyer of the MAA stating that our nominee, John Lichtenegger, was not selected this year. Simon volunteered to submit Lichtenegger again this fiscal year as our nominee for the 2011 Tiger Pride Award.

Proffer of the MU Extension Center thanked the chapter for working at the July 27 Political Forum. Hagans and Simon worked as timekeepers at the event.

Guyot reported that the MU Extension Council will vote on the recipient of an MU scholarship for an existing MU student. He represents the chapter by serving as the MU representative on the Extension Council.

Proffer said that the chapter board is invited to a retirement party for Gerald Bryan, the retiring county program director, to be held at 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 17 at the Extension Center.

Simon reported that the chapter will again work in the 4-H food stand at the SEMO District Fair from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sept. 15. He will contact people to volunteer. At least seven people are needed.

Frasher reported on the upcoming MAA Leaders Weekend to be held in Columbia Sept. 16 through 18. To register for the event, go online at www.mizzou.com/2010 and register by Sept. 3. A special room block is available at Stoney Creek Inn through Aug. 15 for this event. The Foundation Column's Requirement under Discovery is that at least one of our chapter board members must attend leaders weekend. Frasher is planning to attend this year.

Frasher initiated discussion on watch parties. There will probably be one held for the Sept. 4 football game against the University of Illinois in St. Louis. We discussed possible places to have the watch parties. No decision regarding the location for the watch party was made at the meeting. Possible locations are being investigated.

Proffer suggested that we might want to consider a casino night as a fund raiser for the scholarship fund. No action was taken on this suggestion at the meeting.

Frasher talked about the successful diversity event at Cape West 14 Cine where we treated members of the Cape Boys and Girls Club to a movie last December. We talked about doing a similar thing this year for some underprivileged minority groups. Frasher will check into it. We will again seek a diversity grant from the MAA to help cover the cost of the event. Simon suggested we consider treating the young people at the Family Resource Center to a movie this year.

We talked about setting up a fan Facebook page for the chapter. It should help stir up interest in our younger members. Phenix volunteered to set up the page. One goal of having the page would be a means of posting pictures and videos to the page for all to see.

Frasher talked about school recruiting trips. His wish is to do the recruiting trips by the end of October, if possible. Some members present volunteered to visit some of the schools in the chapter's area. We will need MU recruiting literature before we schedule the school visits.

At the suggestion of Hagans, we talked about keeping in touch with the seven MU students who attended our June 17 student picnic, for the purpose of showing the chapter's support. We will need their contact information to accomplish this. Each of us could take on the responsibility of following up with one student.

Simon said that the chapter will again serve as bell ringers for the Salvation Army this year from 5 to 9 p.m. during the weeks of Nov. 29 through Dec. 3 and Dec. 6 through 10 at K-Mart in Cape Girardeau. He will set this up with the Salvation Army and find the volunteers.

The next meeting will be at 6 p.m. on Sept. 13 at the MU Extension Center.
