Kage FCE Club

Jane Clark was hostess when the Kage FCE met at the Cape Girardeau Senior Center for its regular monthly meeting. A moment of silence was held in memory of past member Edna Hey. Dortha Strack, president, presided over the meeting.

A thank-you note was received from the Cape Girardeau Senior Center for the club donation last month.

It was announced that the county scholarship will be awarded in October this year.

Shirley Palen and Judie Herbst reported that the evaluations received for the "Show Me Justice" games were all favorable. There were 100 games made and distributed to local fourth-grade classrooms.

Plans are being made by several members to attend the state conference in Hannibal, Mo., in October.

Members reported that they had worked on the Crystal Club Project at the Lutheran Home. More volunteers are needed. This project sends members to clean eyeglasses of the residents.

The next autism workshop will be held Oct. 30 and will be a Halloween costume party. Members were reminded to collect fabric for this project.

The service project for August is Jefferson Elementary School. Members are to bring articles for the classrooms.

The program was a discussion of heart attack symptoms in women. Sharon Aldredge will be hostess at her home in Jackson for the next meeting Aug. 9.

Town and Country FCE

Town and Country FCE club members Sue Jones and Mary Klaproth attend the 76th National Family and Community Education Conference held July 19 to 22 in Erlanger, Ky. The theme of the conference was "coming together, growing together and building together."

Missouri received three second-place ribbons on the trifolds for Action, Education and Leadership. Missouri received first place on the action notebook report on recylcing and third place on the education notebook report on ovarian cancer.

Conference attendees were offered FCL training on leadership, volunteerism and teaching techniques. Some of the workshops offered were "Where in the World is Chennai, India"; "Taking it to the Streets"; "Dress with Respect"; "Keys to Financial Fitness"; "Loving the Men in Your Life"; "Recycling"; "Bee a Member"; and "Geomotion."

The keynote speaker was Carolyn Ropp, former national FCE president.

The next conference will be July 18 to 21, 2013, in Fargo, N.D.
