The Southeast Black & Gold Chapter of the Missouri Alumni Association met Aug. 1 at the University of Missouri Extension Center in Jackson.
There were four board members present, Tom Frasher, Roger Guyot, Melody Hagans, and Larry Simon, and one guest, Richard Proffer.
The board discussed Donna Lichtenegger's special presentation on July 11. The chapter will try a similar event next year. The possibility of the Chapter writing the press release for the event next year was discussed.
Hagans gave the treasurer's report. She turned over the treasurer's books to Guyot, who will visit the bank this week to register his name on the signature cards.
Frasher reported that he would be attending the MAA Leader's Weekend Sept. 15 and 16 in Columbia, Mo. The board talked about trying to have scholarship winners invited to the Friday Night Banquet. This has been done in recent years.
Proffer suggested that the board consider providing a follow up email to members after events to give them some facts and information concerning the events. This would both provide them information about the events and hopefully motivate members to attend future events.
Frasher reported that he received a thank you from Kurt Heischmidt, the chapter's most recent $4,000 scholarship winner.
Hagans reported that she represented the chapter July 16 when she served as a judge at the Cape County 4-H Achievement Day at the Extension Center. She judged the presentations of ten speakers between 8 and 18 years old. Simon will submit this to Stephanie Heffernan to try to obtain Column's Credit for the chapter.
Simon reported that he has heard nothing yet from the MAA regarding their decision for awarding the Tiger Pride Award. The chapter nominated John Lichtenegger for that award.
Board members brainstormed/discussed upcoming events for the chapter. The chapter will work in the 4-H stand at the SEMO District Fair on Sept. 14, ring the bell for the Salvation Army for two weeks in December, have a Founder's Day event in February, have a student picnic in June, and host a movie night diversity project sometime during the year.
Tentative events include a watch party for the football game with Oklahoma on Sept. 24 which a host and a location are needed, and a possible winery social event sometime in the fall.
The next meeting will be on 6 p.m. Sept. 6 at the Extension Center.
