Oak Ridge FCE
The Oak Ridge FCE Club met on Aug. 19 at the home of Ruby Hitt. Marilyn Retherford presided.
A contribution had been made to the 4-H Calf Show and a gift card was bought for Carole Jo Byrd for expenses she has assumed as historian for the past several years.
Retherford reported she had recently been able to secure denim jackets for a homeless shelter. She also reported taking other clothes for the residents.
Membership forms and dues were collected for the coming year. Enrollment will be completed at the next meeting.
Officers elected for 2004 were: Retherford, president; Jackie Rutherford, vice president; Nelda Crader, secretary; Billie Criddle, treasurer; and Meb Floyd and Byrd, song leaders. Various committees were also appointed.
The annual club picnic will be held Sept. 20 at the home of Byrd. An auction will be included in the program.
Crader announced that $52.50 was collected throughout the year for the Pennies for Friendship and Nickels for Conference Scholarships.
The club's August project will be a gift certificate for a needy grandmother in Cape Girardeau. The September project will also be for the needy.
Kim Begley agreed to give a program on osteoporosis at the October meeting.
Linda Freeman, Criddle and Byrd will assist at Jackson Manor in September. Volunteer hours and miles were recorded.
Crader gave a mini program on the "Wicked Web" and Byrd gave one on protocol and concluded with a game on parliamentary procedure.
Kathy O'Howell, a registered nurse at Southeast Missouri Hospital, gave a program on women's health. She distributed many helpful handouts.
Town & Country FCE
The Town & Country FCE Club met Aug. 14 at the home of Sue Jones. Jones read two poems, "Give Lavishly, Live Abundantly" and "Everybody is a Reason for Giving," for the devotion.
Darlene McCain read the June and July minutes, and Shirley Heise gave the treasurer's report.
Mary Klaproth gave a report on the Aug. 5 tour to The Muny and announced a trip to Alton, Ill., on Oct. 18.
Linda Thompson presided over the meeting. Dues for 2004 were collected and officers were elected: McCain, president; Heise, vice president; Klaproth, treasurer; Lois Seabaugh, secretary; Margie McAnally, reporter; Sue Jones, songs and games; and Norma Schrieber, cards and flowers.
The club gave $10 to Nickels for Conference Scholarships and Pennies for Friendship.
The booth for the SEMO District Fair was discussed. The club will have a table at the Fall Garage Sale at the Osage Centre in Cape Girardeau on Nov. 8.
The council meeting will be Aug. 28 at the Extension Center. Klaproth, Jones, McCain and Thompson will attend the Missouri Association for Family and Community Education in Columbia, Mo., on Sept. 4 and 5. McCain received the Southeast scholarship, Thompson will receive second place for the Cape County International Report and Klaproth will receive the Heart of Missouri FCE Award.
The next meeting will be Sept. 11 at Carolyn Thompson's home. It will be the international dinner on Tasmania.
Roberts Homemakers
Members of the Roberts Homemakers Club met at Riverside Regional Library for an indoor picnic prior to the Aug. 13 meeting. The meeting was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance led by Gloria Hanners.
Members were reminded to bring two items for the Jackson Food Pantry and two items for a bake sale auction to the next meeting.
Alice Eisenhauer gave the program, "The Secret Language of Flowers."
Eastside Homemakers
The Eastside Homemakers met at Woodard's Restaurant on Aug. 20. A short meeting was held after breakfast.
Helen Humes gave the devotion, "Today I Give Thanks."
The Sept. 17 meeting will be held at Golden Gate Restaurant in Jackson at 11 a.m. Members are asked to bring items for the food pantry.
St. Mary CCW
St. Mary Council of Catholic Women met on Aug. 21 in the Monsignor Huels Room in the parish office building.
Miranda Grayne and Teresa LeGrand, youth leaders, and Brad Bohannon and Stephanie Davis shared their experience attending the Stubenville Youth Conference in Springfield, Mo.
The Rev. Tom Kiefer was welcomed as the new pastor and spiritual moderator.
Margie Huber, organization commission, reported that circle leaders met to plan fund-raising projects and review circle lists.
Sister Lucille Zerr reported for Family Concerns. The Relay for Life will be held Sept. 19. Bishop John J. Leibrecht will attend the Voice for Life Conference to be held at Deerfield on Nov. 1.
Church Women United representative Lawana Wulfers said the health kits will be turned in at the Annual Awareness Luncheon to be held Sept. 26 at New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson.
The next meeting will be at 6 p.m. on Sept. 18 in the Monsignor. Huels Room. It will begin with a covered dish supper with invitations to the ladies of Old St. Vincent's Church.
