Town and Country FCE Club
The Town and Country FCE Club met Aug. 13 at the home of Linda Thompson. Darlene McCain, president, conducted the business meeting. Linda Thompson gave the devotion, "Daily prayers dissolve your cares" by Helen Steiner Rice. Roll call was answered if you use organic foods. Pennies for "Coins for Friendship" were collected and it was voted to give $20 to the state for Pennies for Friendship.
Members took ice cream treats to the students at Cottonwood Residential Treatment Center for back to school on Aug. 12.
New officers were elected and will assume their duties Jan. 1. Mary Klaproth, president; Lois Seabaugh, vice president; Sue Jones, secretary/reporter; Donna Woolsey, treasurer; and Joyce King, cards and flowers. The officers will be installed by McCain on Dec. 10.
Klaproth gave a report on attending the National FCE Conference in Blue Springs, Missouri. The keynote speaker was Kristy Childs, a victim of human trafficking. Missouri received second place in education and third place in action. Missouri received second place in the brochures for education and action. Three new Hearth Fire's were introduced at the meeting. Lynn Maples, from Doniphan, Missouri, was installed as the National FCE President.
Recipes for the club's international dinner on Thailand were given out to club members to prepare for the meal. Members will have the international program on Thailand on Sept. 10. The committee consists of Jones, Klaproth and McCain.
Members completed their 2016 membership forms and paid club dues. Members turned in money for the June trivia calenar.
Members were invited to attend the open house to honor the retirement of Mary Ann Garvey, secretary at the University of Missouri Extension Center in Jackson. This will be held 2 to 4 p.m. Friday at the Extension Center.
It was announced the quarterly FCE Councl meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Sept. 3 at the University of Missouri Extension Center in Jackson. The MAFCE Annual Conference will be held in Osage Beach, Missouri, Sept. 30 through Oct. 2. Klaproth and McCain plan to attend. Registration is due by Sept. 1.
The program on organic foods was presented by Woolsey. In addition all members participated in the discussion of Hearth Fire # 59, Advance Directives-Do I Want/Need Them?
Club out will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Cracker Barrel.
The next meeting will be the club's international dinner with authentic food dishes prepared by the members from the country of Thailand. The meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 10 at the home of Jones.
