Town and Country FCE Club

The Town and Country FCE Club met on Aug. 9 at the home of Linda Thompson. Shelby Spears was welcomed as a guest. The devotion was given by Linda Thompson taken from Ideals, "The Class Reunion." Roll call was answered by members stating if they use paper, plastic or neither. Pennies for "Coins for Friendship" were collected. A motion was approved to give $25 to "Coins for Friendship." Members paid their yearly dues for 2013.

Mary Klaproth, president, presided over the business meeting. It was announced Safe House for Women items were delivered on Aug. 1. Sue Jones reported on the progress of the club's education booth on ovarian cancer to be on display at the SEMO District Fair. Members will set up the booth at 9 a.m. on Sept. 7. Jones and Klarpoth reported on attending the National FCE Conference in Erlanger, Ky., and had pictures to share.

Plans were completed for the beginning of school party for the students at Cottonwood Residential Treatment Center with items to be taken on Aug. 14. Darlene McCain will check with Hope Children's Home for items that are needed for the club's September project.

The following officers were elected to be installed in December by Joyce King and assume their duties Jan. 1: Jones, president; Lois Seabaugh, vice president; Thompson, secretary; McCain, treasurer; and Klaproth, reporter.

Klaproth and Seabaugh plan to attend the leader training meeting on Aug. 24 at the Perry County Extension Center. Members were asked for suggestions for programs for 2013.

The Cape Girardeau County quarterly meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Sept. 6 at the University of Missouri Extension Office in Jackson.

Members were reminded of the deadline of Sept. 3 to register for the MAFCE 2012 Conference to be held Oct. 3 through 5 in Hannibal, Mo.

Itineraries were available for the FCE sponsored trip on Sept. 8 for the Carl Hurley Show in Draffenville, Ky., with dinner at Patti's 1880's Settlement in Grand Rivers, Ky.

Authentic Egyptian recipes have been given to all members to prepare for the international meal on Egypt. The menu will include bean salad, koftit roz, cucumber yogurt salad, lemony carrot dip, Egyptian tabilah, Egyptian onion bread and Egyptian cake. Seabaugh, Klaproth and Jones are in charge of arrangements.

The program was presented by Seabaugh on Paper or Plastic. Information was taken from the Resource Book. In addition, "Hearth Fire #49, Someone's asking ... Paper, Plastic or Neither?" was discussed by all members participating.

Club out will be at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 30 at Tractors in Jackson. The hostess gift was won by Joyce King.

The next meeting will be the international dinner and program on Egypt at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 13 at the home of Jones.

American Legion Auxiliary 63

There were 21 one members in attendance for the Aug. 8 meeting. Lunch was served by hostesses Frieda Howard, Fern Schlimme and Vergie Templeton.

The 50/50 drawing was won by Edna Smith and the attendance prize by Mildred Vervell.

Cathryn Allison gave the opening prayer prior to lunch.

The July minutes were accepted as presented and the treasurer's report accepted and filed for audit.

Linda Kern, membership chairman, was presented with a certificate in recognition of attaining 100 percent of goal for 2011 and an award was presented to Myrna Powers for her report to state head quarters.

Kern also thanked members for donating school supplies for Jefferson Elementary School, and that socks, underwear and gloves are needed. She will deliver the items as they are recieved.

Patsy Kimbrel announced the men will have an ice cream social on their regular August meeting night. She will be in charge of the refreshments. The auxiliary members are invited.

Announcements made were that the ham and bean day is Nov. 1 and the district meeting will be hosted by Cape Girardeau on Nov. 4.
