Ramblewood Garden
The Ramblewood Garden Club met Aug 2, at the Red House. Jane Jackson and Alan Higgins served as tour guides. A meeting was held at the Boardman Pavilion.
The volunteer committee will discuss fund raising. Recommendations will be made at the September meeting. Emphasis is placed on need for funding scholarships.
A note from Marge Thompson was shared with the club. Thompson complimented the garden at the Cape River Heritage Museum.
The Rose Garden work schedule was shared and it was announced that "good insects" were placed in the three round beds. $23.45 was given to the treasurer for the tree fund.
The United Methodist Women of Hobbs Chapel met Aug 8. The meeting was called to by order by June Warder, vice president. Special guests were the Rev. Jerry and Mary Jane Statler. The Statlers presented a program on their recent mission trip to Nicaragua. The UMW voted to donate $50 to the Rainbow Network, sponsors of the mission.
Juanita Henley reported that $224.04 was donated for the candleburning on UMW Sunday which was held July 10.
The annual fall bazaar is scheduled for 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 8. Some of the features will be a sale of soup, chili and baked goods.
Tailgate spaces will be sold at $10 each, the UMW will hold a garage sale, and will have a white elephant/collectible table. Books and pumpkins will also be sold.
The Area Church Women United met Aug. 5 at St. Mary's Cathedral in Cape Girardeau. Hazel Blank, a member of St. Mary's, gave the Bible study.

Moon thanked all who helped with the recent CROP sale and luncheon. A group from Young Life and Notre Dame High School helped with the serving and clearing of tables. Honey was donated by the Rev. Grant Gillard, pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Jackson, plants from the SEMO Greenhouse, cinnamon rolls from Allen Foods, pottery from Danna Cotner, and baked and canned goods from members of CWU. The sale and luncheon was a success.
Scholarships were voted to go to Young Life, a young women who is studying nursing at the Career and Technology Center and to the Heifer Project through Church World Service.
The annual Awareness Luncheon will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sept. 23. Each member is asked to bring a salad and a friend. Cape Girardeau CWU will be celebrating its 200th anniversary in 2006 and the speakers will be from some of the historical churches in Cape Girardeau. The churches in Cape Girardeau have had a great impact on this community and CWU has been an important part of that history for many years. It is hoped that through the coming year as the group meets in different churches that a member of that church wil present its history and give a tour of the church. Church World Service layette kits and Missouri Family food boxes will be dedicated at this meeting. These items are received from the churches represented in the local CWU.
There will be a quilt show at First General Baptist Church from 3 to 6 p.m on Sept. 29. Joe Trower is in charge of the quilt auction to be held at the Festival of Sharing in Sedalia, Mo., on Oct. 15. Joyce King handed out posters and booklets about the festival.
A communion round table discussion is in the planning stages. It will involve serveral ministers telling how they observe commuion and a question-and-answer session will follow. After the discussion, a communion will be observed. A date and place will be announced later.
Cape CWU is in charge of the State CWU Assembly to be held March 13 and 14, 2006 in Jefferson City, Mo., at the Rockman Center. Dolly Jewell reported that plans are underway and another planning meeting will be held Thursday.
Shirley Patterson reported that the nominations committee has been working very hard to get new church representatives for the local group and also for the new officers for 2006.

New Salem UMW
The New Salem United Methodist Women of Daisy met Aug 10 at the home of Roberta Seabaugh with 10 members present. The meeting was opened by Dorothy Hahs, president.
There were 35 sick/shut-in calls made during the month of July. Barbara Brown reported on the nursing home visitation for July. The visitation committee for September will be Colleen Lukefahr and Seabaugh.
Correspondence from the "Mission Voice" was read. The fall district meeting will be held Sept. 17, in Gordonville and items for the Festival of Sharing in October will need to be taken to the church by Sept. 18. Verla Mangels reported on the picnic for September and gave each member their list of what to bring.
The apple butter project will be discussed at the September meeting.
It was decided to host the Vigortone dinner again in October. A sound system for the fellowship hall was again discussed and it will be presented at the next church board meeting.
Jackie Kurre presented the program and Seabaugh was in charge of a game before refreshments.
The next meeting will be Sept. 6 in the church fellowship hall.
American Legion Auxiliary
The American Legion Auxiliary met Aug. 10 for a noon luncheon with Gerri Stone and Edna Smith serving as hostesses. Betty Cato, vice president, presided over the business meeting. The auxiliary's charter was draped in memory of Juanita Popp.
A thank-you note was received from the American Red Cross for sponsoring a blood drive in July. A note was received from Brianna LeGrand who attended the American Legion Auxiliary's Girls State.
A donation was made to the Community Counseling Center and to Parkview State School.
Marilyn Ritter will take school supplies from the auxiliary to Jefferson Elementary School.
Peggy Blaylock received a potted plant for having the best Americanism report in the district. Myrna Powers received word from the state convention that she had the best unit chaplain report and also the best chaplain book. Freida Howard won the best field service report from the state. She was also recognized for Unit #63's membership making goal.
The video, "Story of a River City," was shown. The next meeting will be Sept. 14 when the group will take a walking tour of the murals of Cape Girardeau and then have lunch at Port Cape.
FCE Wonderworkers
The FCE Wonderworkers Extension Club met at the home of Nell Kieninger on Aug. 11. Margie Swan was welecomed as a visitor.
Kieninger gave the program on Alaska. A report on the American Red Cross blood drive held in June was given. Members gave reports on their volunteer hours.
Membership dues were paid for the coming year and the 2006 FCE Membeship forms were filled out.
The election of 2006 officers was held. They are Joy Engelhart, chairman; Nelda Starzinger, vice chairman; and Margie E. Reisenbichler, secretary/treasurer/report.
The program "Something just for me," was given by Margie E. Reisenbichler.
The next meeting will be at 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 9 at the home of Margie W. Reisenbichler. The program will be given by Engelhart.
