Sedgewickville UMW

The Sedgewickville United Methodist Women held the annual salad supper and July meeting at the home of Dona Maes on July 13. Pete Shrum presided over the meeting.

Following the reading and approval of the minutes and treasurer's report, Shrum noted some dates to remember. The fifth Sunday carry-in dinner and ice cream social will be held Sunday. On Aug. 10, a trip will be made to Epworth. The annual church dinner will be held Aug. 6.

A quilt committee was selected. They are Wilma Crites, Mary Lou Conrad, Alison Shrum and Gena Welker. They will decide on the display of the quilt which will be placed in a silent auction at the church homecoming in November.

Shrum thanked the UMW for preparing the Statler reunion dinner on July 9.

Rachel Williams was the special speaker. The Praise Dancers from Epworth have been confirmed for the UMW Sunday on Oct. 16.

A discussion was held on getting a new table for the age 20-30 class Sunday school room.

The fall UMW rummage sale will held on Sept. 24.

Maes provided a handout "Keeping the Sabbath" and Mission Moments was read by Shrum.

Cape Girardeau County FCE

At a recent Cape Girardeau FCE council meeting, Kim Begley, Oak Ridge member, gave a devotion on Life. Carole Jo Byrd was present and just home from the national convention held in Anchorage, Alaska where she had received the Heart of FCE Award. She was representing the state of Missouri.

Judy Johnson, also at the national convention, reviewed FCE Convention highlights that were of interest to the council.

Dortha Strack announced that any club would be welcome to exhibit a booth at the SEMO District Fair in September.

Council scholarship committee member Begley gave a recommendation for the council. She explained the changes the committee felt outdated. The group voted to make the recommended changes.

The state conference will be held at the Ramada Inn in Columbia, Mo., on Aug. 25 and 26. A large group from Cape Girardeau County reported they will be attending this conference.

Byrd explained changes that were upcoming in the Tune-Out-Violence activity.

Volunteers for the blood drive this year were Jean Rehak, Marjorie Swan, Nelda Crader, Verla Mangels and Begley. Cookies will be furnished by Wonderworkers FCE Club.

Linda Sebaugh, president-elect from the Lamplighters FCE Club, led a discussion on changing club recognition for All Clubs' Day. She will conduct a meeting in August with all club presidents to make final decisions to bring before the council.

Mary Gosche discussed new communication devices that the county office had secured with money received from a grant. Communication between the counties and the state will be enhanced.

The next council meeting will be Sept. 6.
