Lamplighters FCE News

There were 13 members of the Lamplighters FCE Club present at the Olive Garden in Cape Girardeau for their June meeting and annual birthday party. Judy Myers, Roberta Seabaugh, and Bev Meyer planned the event.

During the abbreviated business session, members were told a new tax exempt letter was available and copies were distributed. All old copies should be destroyed and only the new one used.

A thank-you card was received from Seabaugh and her family for the care and support shown to them during the illness and death of her husband, Lonnie Seabaugh.

Linda Sebaugh reported on the June 3 County Council Meeting where members were informed that the fall district meeting would be in Wayne County and that the state MAFCE meeting will be Sept. 23 and 24 in St. Louis. Jo Ann Hahs will make the tri-fold display for Cape County.

It was reported that the Lamplighters' checking account was moved to People's Bank and a 12 megapixel digital Polaroid camera was purchased for club use.

Hahs reported on the Cape Girardeau County Autism Weighted Items Workshop held June 14. There were 13 weighted blankets, 10 weighted lap pads and seven shoulder snakes completed and then delivered to Touch Point Autism Service on June 15.

Five "Storybook Tails" were presented to the students at the Oak Ridge R-6 Summer Camp on May 28 and five more were shared on June 11. The club served juicy burgers and potato chips the first day and cup cakes and ice cream the second day to the students.

Each member brought two cards to be sent to area servicemen thanking them for serving our country. Meyer will mail these.

Plans for the Lamplighters Aug. 24 and 25, trip to Springfield, Ill., were presented by Judy Myers and Hahs.

Members were reminded of the upcoming FCE Tours: The Muny Opera on Aug. 10 and to "State Fair" at Stages on Sept. 18; and the cruise on the Mississippi River on Oct. 7.

Secret Pal birthday gifts were distributed.

Capaha Scottish Rite Women's Club

The Capaha Scottish Rite Women's Club met July 12, at Delmonico's in Jackson.

Mary Mouser was installed at rreasurer for the coming year.

Members enjoy an evening of games and fellowship.

Our next meeting will be held Aug. 9. The meeting place will be decided at a later date.

Town & Country FCE

The Town & Country FCE Club Picnic organized by Mary Klaproth and Lois Seabaugh for members, family, and friends was held July 8. There were total of 26 guests gathered at the Jackson Presbyterian Church instead of Cape County Park due to rain. The group recited the Common Table Grace before the potluck dinner.

Items were brought for the Jackson Ministerial Alliance Food Pantry.

Carolyn Thompson, president, presided over a short business meeting.

Each member is to bring five envelopes containing one dollar per envelope to be given to the Missouri Veterans Home for Bingo prizes.

Judy Niswonger won a gift card to Cracker Barrel for the attendance prize.

Sue Jones, Linda Thompson and Klaproth attended the National FCE Meeting in Grand Rapids, Mich., held July 16 through 18. Thompson received the Missouri Heart of FCE Award.

Our next meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Aug. 12 hosted by Linda Thompson.

Missouri LWML

The twenty-first Biennial Convention of the Missouri District Lutheran Women's Missionary League was held June 11-13 at the University Plaza Hotel in Springfield, Mo. The theme was "Beautiful Feet Led by God." Over 725 women from across the state were present, many of those being from the Altenburg and Cape Girardeau Zones.

Convention delegates voted to accept a 2010-2012 biennium mission goal of $335,000. Karen Drury of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau was elected to serve as president of the Missouri District LWML for the next four years, and Sally Handrick of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Perryville, Mo., was elected to serve as vice president of Gospel Outreach.

The LWML is the official women's organization of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.

American Legion Auxiliary

The American Legion Auxiliary met July 14. Guests included Frank, Cindy and Kristina Cruse and Courtney Schneider. Cindy and Courtney attended Girls State In June.

Sheryl Smith, post commander, was in attendance and spoke briefly. Also, Dennis Woeltje, district commander, was present.

Peggy Blaylock, delegate to the state convention, gave a report.

Myrna Powers', Children and Youth, 14th District chairman, report was chosen the best report and it will be sent to national.

A homemade ice cream social will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 18. Juicy burgers and chips will be served.

Guest speaker will be Dr. Frank Nickell.
