Town and Country FCE Club

The Town and Country FCE Club met July 7 for a dinner meeting at Pizza Inn in Fruitland. Lois Seabaugh was in charge of arrangements.

Darlene McCain, president, conducted the business meeting. Coins for Friendship were collected.

Thank-you notes were received from The Salvation Army for the club's donation of two fans and from the Jackson Elks Club Christmas Give-a-Way program for the donated children's clothing items. A letter was read from JoAnn Hahs, Southeast District director, outlining the meetings and activities for the year.

July trivia calendars were distributed to members for a monetary project. Bingo prizes for The Lutheran Home were collected and delivered July 8. Also, food pantry items were brought to the meeting, to be delivered to the Jackson Ministerial Alliance. The "Back to School" party was planned for Cottonwood Residential Treatment Center, with McCain to confirm a date in August with Cottonwood personnel.

The club voted to donate $25 to the Joplin School Fund. Further plans were discussed regarding the club booth for SEMO District Fair in September and the international dinner/program on Spain to be held at the September meeting.

Mary Klaproth, Sue Jones and McCain attended the National FCE Diamond Jubilee Conference in Denver July 14 through 17, with McCain being the recipient of the National Board Alumni Scholarship.

Club out will be at 6:30 p.m. July 28 at the Branding Iron in Jackson.

Capaha Scottish Rite Women's Club

The Capaha Scottish Rite Women's Club met at Delmonico's in Jackson on July 11, The theme for the evening was "The celebration of our country and being thankful to our God that we have a country that we can celebration of our freedom to worship our God."

Bingo was played, and all received lovely gifts.

Tilsit 4-H

The Tilsit 4-H Club met July 7 at Immaculate Conception Church basement in Jackson. There were 26 members and 20 others in attendance.

Matthew Brucker presided over the meeting.

Emma Sievers and Morgan Bangert led the songs, and Ryan Aufdenberg led the pledges.

The following demonstrations were presented: Ryan Aufdenberg, how 4-H has helped me; Natalie James, how to fill a cake decorating bag and use common cake decorating tips; Faith Boettcher, how to make stars with cake decorating iips; Adam Koenig, repairing the fletching on an arrow; Samuel Koenig, ear notching a pig; and Sara Gholson, cuts of pork.

Clover Kids were dismissed for their meeting. Everyone who attended 4-H Camp reported about it. There were 24 members who attended camp.

Eileen Sievers will check into possible places for swim party.

It was announced that next month's meeting will be held in the park by the low water bridge. All demonstrations need to be completed to show at the SEMO District Fair, and there are County Fair tags are available.

The Boettcher family provided refreshments.

Progressive Club

The Progressive Club met June 28 and toured the alpaca ranch of Dawn Flickinger in Perry County. Flickinger told how she bought her first five alpacas after she saw them on a commercial on TV and thought "they were cute." She learned all about their needs and care after she bought them. They were tame, and all members enjoyed having them eat out of their hands. Members learned that there are two kinds of alpacas, and each type has a different feel to their fleece. A friend of Flickinger demonstrated how to felt and how to spin the fleece on her spinning wheel.

From there members went to the Mississippi Mud Tavern in Altenburg, Mo., where they held the business meeting on the front porch while guests and husbands waited inside. President JoAnn Adams opened the meeting. Roll call was taken, and minutes from the last meeting were read by Jean Dudley, secretary, and approved by members. Elvia Percival gave the treasurer's report.

Becky Heuer gave a report for the Christmas Committee on the three choices for the meeting on Dec. 4. Members voted to go the Southeast Showcase, a musical benefit for cancer, and then go to Little Miss Muffin's for dinner.

Members were reminded that the next meeting Aug. 23 will be the 50th anniversary party and reunion. It will be held at 6 p.m. at the Missouri Extension Center in Jackson. Mary Talley, Dorothy Pensel and Shirley Beggs have been working on plans for the celebration and are sending out invitations to past members.

Meeting adjourned to join guests and husbands inside for refreshments.

American Legion Auxiliary

Twenty-seven members attended the July 13 meeting held at the Post home. Barbara Yallaly, president, called the meeting to order.

Hostesses for the luncheon were Grace Coy, Dorothy Klein and Reba Strayhorn.

The Constitution was draped in memory of departed member Peggy Blaylock. A thank-you letter was read from the Blaylock family, and a thank-you letter was recieved from the Cape Girardeau Senior Center for the donation of a new American flag. The Auxiliary was awarded a certificate of recognition from the Daughters of the American Revolution in regard to the senior center flag donation.

Myrna Powers, treasurer, reported $2,296.50 in donations on Poppy Day. Iola Amelunke and Powers were delegates to the convention held July 7 through 10 in Jefferson City, Mo. Powers reported on new guidelines and information beneficial to the unit.

Officers for 2011-2012 will be Yallaly, president; Jerri Stone, vice president; Powers, treasurer; Klein, secretary; and Mildred Varvell, sergeant at arms.

Teresa Teague of the Big Brothers, Big Sisters organization spoke regarding upcoming activities and programs, which also include the Family Resouce Center.

Linda Kern asked members to bring school supplies to the Aug. 10 meeting for the students at Jefferson Elementary School.

A chicken dinner will be catered July 31. This is a project of the American Legion, cost is $7 and tickets are to be purchased in advance.
