Arnsberg 4-H Club

The Arnsberg 4-H club visited John and Carolyn Watkins of Friedheim on June 27 for one of the club's community service projects. The Watkins are state and federally licensed wildlife rehabilitators. They care for many different species of animals including fox, deer, bear, eagles, hawks, raccoons, etc. Currently they have baby deer, a barn owl, raccoons, opossums and armadillos. The club donated a $100 gift certificate to Buchheit's for the use of feed, supplies, etc.

On July 1, the club met at Friedheim Trinity Lutheran Church hall. Emily Ruch, treasurer, presided with 17 members, eight leaders and seven visitors in attendance.

Grace Fox and Amanda Lappe led in song. The July birthdays were recognized with a special song. Josh Daume led the pledges.

Sharon Tuschhoff reported that the club raised $900 the day of the Hay Day Fun Show for the therapeutic program.

Kristi Seyer reported on the progress of the By-Law Committee. Reports were given on the crafts, field crops, horse, rodeo and poultry projects.

The summer pool party will be held from 8 to 10 p.m. on July 28 at the Jackson Municipal Pool.

Refreshments were provided by the Keith LeGrand family. The next meeting will be held on Aug. 5.

Cape County AARP 4041

The Cape Girardeau County Chapter of AARP 4041 met July 12 at Grace United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau.

Grace Hoover gave a slide presentation of "Cruisin' Through the Panama Canal."

AARP members will help at the Salvation Army "Back to School Fair" on Aug 13.

New members are Lil Young, and Marge and John Janssen.

Capaha Scottish Rite Women's Club

The July meeting of the Capaha Scottish Rite Women's Club was held at Delmonico's in Jackson. There were 17 members and four visitors present.

Luella Armstrong presided and led the Pledge of Allegiance, and Omega Hawkins voiced the table prayer.

Program chairman was Irene Tindell. She and co-hostesses Darlene McLemore and Ramona Bellis conducted bingo. Cynthia Alfaro and Doyle Mouser won the door prizes.

The location of the August meeting will be announced at a later date. The hostess will be Alfaro with Laura Corse as program chairman.

American Legion Auxiliary

American Legion Auxiliary met at the American Legion Hall for the July meeting. A pasta luncheon was enjoyed by all. Hostesses were Patsy Kimbrel and Barbara Yallaly. Games were played for fresh vegetables brought to the meeting by Yallaly.

Donna Martin thanked the group for sending her daughter, Rebecca Martin, to Missouri Girls' State. She read a letter her daughter wrote. A thank-you note was received from Christina Cato for sending her to Girls' State. Favors were passed out to over 700 girls daily. Unit 63 made 350 favors and the club received a thank you from the Clark City residents. The unit will take a check to the state convention for the Girls' State Trust Fund. Six local girls went to Girls' State and invitations will be sent for the girls and their parents to attend the Aug. 11 meeting.

The Cape Area for Habitat for Humanity sent a thank-you note for the drinks the unit provided for their open house. The Green family also sent a thank you for the basket of household items that was presented to them at the open house.

A letter and thank-you card were received from Jefferson Elementary School counselor Mary Lou Bass for the unit's help and assistance at the school.

The auxiliary will sponsor a blood drive for the American Red Cross on July 29. Fern Schlimme is chairwoman of the event.

The Aug. 11 meeting will be a covered dish meal. The Rev. Scott Moon and Scott McClanahan will be invited to this particular meeting. A monetary gift will be presented to Grace United Methodist Church for providing the auxiliary a meeting place for over five years.

The 14th District meeting will be held Aug. 1 at the American Legion Hall in Cape Girardeau.

VFW Ladies Auxiliary

The VFW Post 3838 Ladies Auxiliary met July 8 at the post with President Judy Thrower presiding. Committee reports were read and new members were installed. Awards received at the state convention were presented to chairwomen winners.

A motion was made to purchase and donate two park benches for the VFW lake property.

The national convention will be held Aug 14 through 20 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Missouri Veterans Home bingo will be held Saturday. Steak night will be Aug. 7. The auxiliary is still collecting Campbell soup labels, which may be left at the post.

The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. on Aug. 12 at Post 3838.
