Nancy Hunter Chapter NSDAR

The Nancy Hunter Chapter NSDAR met May 23 at the Cape Girardeau Country Club for the end-of-the-year luncheon and meeting, hosted by Edna Ruth Fischer.

Ruth Lang, vice president, opened the meeting with "The Pledge of Allegiance."

Lang introduced guests, Morgan Lake, state recording secretary; Lorilee Short, district director; and Jerry Kenner, a prospective member.

Charlotte Slinkard and Dorothy Points installed new member Sue LaBruyere.

Points was given appreciation as the chapter's 50-year member.

Julia Unnerstall has been selected to be awarded as the chapter's choice for teacher of the year.

Lake installed the new officers for the following year: Slinkard, regent; Sheila Holloway, vice regent; Carol Robinson, secretary; Lang, treasurer; and Allison, registrar.

The chapter will go to Constitution Day/Heroes Assembly held at Alma Schrader Elementary School in September hosted by Unnerstall.

After their summer break, the group will resume their meetings at 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 26 in the Penzel Conference Room at the Cape Girardeau Public Library.

St. Mary CCW

St. Mary Council of Catholic Women met May 17 in the Huels Room.

The meeting began with Lauren and Lindsay Landewee, daughters of Jennifer Landewee, crowning the statue of Mary. The group then prayed the rosary.

Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.

Those in attendance were Kate Schaefer, president; Mary Ann Hennecke, vice president; Pat Eftink, treasuerer; Imelda Nenninger, secretary; and Judy DeClue, past-president. Msgr. William Stanton was a special guest.

The treasurer's report was distributed by Eftink.

Commission Reports:

Leadership commission: Diane Schaefer reported that the basket for the spring assembly silent auction was well received. Dolores Gibbar reported that two bereavement dinners were served.

Kate Schaefer reported on the spring assembly, noting the address by the Rev. Oscar Lukefahr. Other topics were the Amen Center at Delta and human trafficking. The purse auction, new this year, was a great success.

Plans are being made for a parish picnic to be held at an ourdoor Mass at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 26.

The NCCW individual dues are now $75 and parish council dues are $100. It was moved by Judy Stricker and seconded by Irene Stevens that we send $50 to the Province Director for a donation from the parish council. The motion carried.

The nomination committee had no name to submit for a president.

There will not be a regular meeting in June. Watch the Sunday bulletin for announcements about the next meeting.

The May circle served refreshments.
