St. Mary CCW; Progressive Club; Capaha Scottish Rite Women's Club; Sedgewickville UMW

AARP 4041

The Cape Girardeau County Chapter of AARP 4041 met June 6 at the Marquette Tower. Thomas A. Meyer gave some facts about the tower and the group went to the top floor to see a view of the city.

Upcoming events were announced. They are day of service on July 18; senior information day on July 20; and the Salvation Army Back-to-School Fair on July 28.

The next meeting will be held on July 11.

St. Mary CCW

The St. Mary Council of Catholic Women met June 16 in the Monsignor Huels room at the church. Nancy King, president, presided over the meeting. Alyssa Turner and Sharon Wickham were welcomed as new members.

Margie Huber, organization chair, reported that a meeting was held to update Circle lists.

Three bereavement dinners were served since the last meeting.

Hazel Blank, CWU representative, announced that the annual CROP Sale and luncheon will be held July 15 at Centenary United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau. The group will collect items for layette kits and family food boxes until September.

It was voted to send a monthly donation to Migrant Whole Health Outreach in response to a letter from Sister Rita Schonhoff. Pat Eftink, treasurer, distributed the monthly reported and also reviewed the yearly report.

Suggestions for programs for the coming year were discussed and several members toured the parish library.

Refreshments were served by the June Circle and Blank.

The next meeting will be held on July 21 in the Monsignor Huels room.

Progressive Club

The Progressive Club held its May meeting at the home of Barb Lorberg with Earlene Sokolowski serving as co-hostess.

Grant Gillard gave a program on bees. He brought some of the bees that were working to make honey.

Husbands were invited to this meeting and refreshments were served.

Capaha Scottish Rite Women's Club

The Capaha Scottish Rite Women's Club met at Delmonico's in Jackson for its June meeting. Luella Armstrong presided. The club voted to contribute to the American Lung Association.

The installation of officers was conducted by Evelyn Ritchie. The officers for the coming year are Armstrong, president; Cynthia Alfaro, vice president; Debbie Hay, secretary; and Doris Hurst, treasurer.

The next meeting will be held July 11 at Delmonico's with Irene Tindell and Ramona Bellis as hostesses. Program chairman will be Darlene McLemore.

Sedgewickville UMW

The Sedgewickville United Methodist Women met June 8 at the home of Wilma Crites. Pete Shrum presided over the meeting.

Following the reading and approval of the minutes and treasurer's report, Shrum announced that the Statler reunion will be held July 9.

Under unfinished business, Shrum reviewed the results from the annual conference of the donated kits to replace the kits used for the tsunami relief. A total of 2,688 school kits, 7,300 health kits, 56 clean-up kits, and 46 medical boxes were donated which totaled $144,148 in value. The Sedgewickville United Methodist Church donated 15 health kits, two school kits and one medical kit prepared by the Sedgewickville UMW.

Refreshments for vacation Bible school to be held on July 16 were discussed.

The group decided to visit Epworth in St. Louis on Aug. 10 for its August meeting. The Epworth speaker and group will be confirmed for the UMW Sunday in October. The menu was then discussed for the Statler reunion fund raiser.

A decision was made to display the antique quilt donated by Gena Welker at the church's annual picnic on Aug. 6 and then sell it by silent auction at the homecoming planned for October.

Shrum reported on the annual conference with emphasis on going out and making disciples. Dona Maes read "Welcome at Christ's Table," from the "Response" magazine and Shrum read "Mission Moments."

The program was given by Francis Brotherton on "Growing spiritually and having fun."

The group will meeting at Edythe Davis' home on July 13.
