St. Mary CCW

The St. Mary Cathedral Council of Catholic Women met June 15 at the Cape Girardeau Public Library. Diane Schaefer, vice president, reported seven birthday cards had been mailed.

Nancy King, president, thanked all who brought cakes and served at the reception for William Hennecke's ordination as a deacon on June 9.

The Church Women United CROP sale will be held July 14 at Centenary United Methodist Church Family Life Center.

Paula Gresham, Adult Services coordinator, presented the program on the many services available through Adult Services and provided a list of the recent books and authors. The group then toured the library. Sister Lucille Zerr installed Schaefer as president and Julia Grider as vice president for the coming year.

The July meeting will be held on July 20 in the Monsignor Huels room. This will be a planning meeting. The next regular meeting will be held Aug. 17.

American Legion Auxiliary 65

The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 65 met for the June meeting with special guests, a Gold Star mother, Gold Star members and female veterans from the Missouri Veterans Home. There were also 17 members of the American Legion Auxiliary 158 in Jackson present.

Officers for the 2006-2007 year are Patsy Kimbrel, president; Gerri Stone, vice president; Barbara Yallaly, secretary; Myrna Powers, treasurer; Iola Amelunke, historian; Marilyn Ritter, chaplain; and Juania Cook, sergeant-at-arms.

There will be no July meeting, so the next meeting will be Aug. 9. The annual Fourth of July picnic will be held at Arena Park with lunch served at noon. Bring a covered dish to go with hot dogs and brats.
