Missouri Brigade

The Missouri Brigade of the Society of the Descendants of Washington's Army at Valley Forge held its 31st annual meeting on June 18, at The Gatesworth, in St. Louis. Local Cape Girardeau resident, Ronald L. Beasley was in attendance, along with his daughter Elizabeth Beasley Herbst, who resides in St. Peter's, Mo. Beasley serves as the Brigade Inspector, and Herbst serves as the Brigade Adjutant.

Commander Doris DeFer presided over the business meeting, which followed a social hour and luncheon. The program this year was "Memories of Valley Forge," which was an informative presentation on Missouri counties, including their histories and revolutionary war heroes.

One of the discussions for new business was recruiting new members to the Missouri Brigade. If anyone is interested in joining the national and local society, he or she can get membership instructions and an application from www.valleyforgesociety.com.

St. Mary CCW

St. Mary Council of Catholic Women held their meeting on June 16 in the Huels Room. Sister Lucille Zerr led the prayers.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.

Officers in attendance were Kate Schaefer, president; Mary Ann Hennecke, vice-president; Diane Schaefer, acting treasurer, Imelda Nenninger, secretary, and Judy DeClue, past-president.

Spirituality, Zerr reported that 22 ladies work at the Food Pantry.

Leadership: Judy DeClue has flyers for the scrapingbooking fund raiser to be held on July 23. Reservations should be made by July 11. Cookies and snacks were requested.

Dolores Gibbar asked for someone to take over the quilt raffle. Drawing will be held on Dec. 15 at the Christmas meeting. She also reported that three bereavements had been served.

A thank-you letter was received from Catholic Relief Services.

Hazel Blank can no longer be the June circle leader. Hennecke will be the new leader.

The Region 7 meeting was held Tuesday at St. John Parish in Leopold, Mo.

Canned vegetables will collected at each meeting for the Food Pantry.

Dee Narmore gave the program. She told her story of becoming a member of the Catholic Church.

Refreshments were served and patriotic bracelets were distributed.

The next meeting will be on July 21.
