American Legion Auxiliary

The American Legion Auxiliary met for its annual picnic on June 11.

Election of officers was held for 2003-2004. They are: Iola Amelunke, president; Betty Cato, vice president; Barbara Yallaly, secretary; Myrna Powers, treasurer; Marilyn Ritter, chaplain; Dorothy Klein, historian; and Muriel Day, sergeant at arms.

Patsy Kimbrel donated a quilt to be raffled for the American Legion's building fund. Donations for $10 are being accepted for a chance to win the quilt.

Powers, Amelunke and Yallaly will be going to the Legion convention in July.

The next meeting will be July 9 at Grace United Methodist Church. Lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m., with the meeting beginning at 1 p.m.

Town & Country FCE

Town & Country FCE Club met June 12 for its anniversary dinner and meeting at My Daddy's Cheesecake at the Village. The club was established in 1966. Each member's anniversary was also celebrated with gifts from secret pals. Shirley Heise and Lois Seabaugh were co-chairwomen for the event.

Linda Thompson presided over a short business meeting.

It was decided to give $10 to light a luminary in memory of Verna Dell Petzoldt at the "Relay for Life" to be held at Cape County Park on July 11.

A blood drive will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. today at Cape Senior Citizen Center.

Club outing will be June 26 at O'Charley's.

The family picnic will be held at 6:30 p.m. July 10 at Cape County Park South. The club will supply fried chicken and each member will bring side dishes.

Capaha Scott Rite Women's Club

The June meeting of the Capaha Scottish Rite Women's Club was held at Delmonico's Restaurant in Jackson. Louella Armstrong presided.

The installation of officers was conducted by Omega Hawkins. They are: Armstrong, president; Cynthia Alfaro, vice president; Debbie Hay, secretary and Doris Hurst, treasurer.

The July 14 meeting place will be announced later.

Roberts Homemakers Club

Members of the Roberts Homemakers Club had lunch at Pizza Inn before gathering at Riverside Regional Library in Jackson for their June meeting. Gloria Hanners presided over the meeting.

It was decided to give $50 to the American Red Cross for their work in tornado relief.

Oak Ridge FCE

Lee Anderson was hostess for the June 18 meeting of the Oak Ridge FCE Club, held at the Jackson Elks Lodge.

Receipts from the May auction and earnings from the work at bingo were added to the club's treasury.

Business included Nelda Crader reporting on the June County Council meeting. A decision was made to distribute Golden Books to the Oak Ridge Learning Center, physician offices, young family members and friends. On July 15, the club members will eat at Bella Italia in Cape Girardeau. An Oak Ridge kidney and cancer patient will receive a phone card from the Oak Ridge Club as a July project. Jackets will be cleaned and mended as a project for the homeless shelter. Several members reported donating to the homeless shelter and to some less fortunate children in Jackson.

A record was made of books and magazines given to others and volunteer hours. Pennies for Friendship were collected.

Mary Dee Ford will make cookies for the FCE blood drive to be held in Cape Girardeau. Jackie Rutherford will deliver the cookies.

Barbara Popp gave a program on "Experiencing Chocolate." Carole Jo Byrd thanked the club for her 50-year pin.
