The Town and Country FCE Club celebrated its 46th anniversary June 14 at a dinner meeting held at Pagoda Gardens in Cape Girardeau. Darlene McCain and Linda Thompson were in charge of arrangements. Mary Klaproth, president, presided over the business meeting. Thompson read a devotion by Rick Warren and McCain gave a devotion titled "The Cracked Pot." Coins for Friendship were collected. A thank-you note was read from Parkview State School for the end-of-school party the club sponsored. The club delivered fans to the Salvation Army on June 1.

The club will plan to provide the "Show Me Justice Game" to the fourth grade classes in the Jackson School District applying for a MFFCE grant to help with the expenses.

Joyce King had a list of items that could be used by the Safe House, and members will bring those items to the July 12 meeting to be delivered later.

Sue Jones and Klaproth are making plans to attend the National FCE Conference in Erlanger, Ky., July 19 through 22. Klaproth announced a scholarship is available for first time attendees for the annual MAFCE conference in Hannibal, Mo., Oct. 4 and 5.

Three members of the Town and Country FCE Club, McCain, Klaproth and Thompson will be going on the FCE sponsored trip to The Muny in St. Louis on Tuesday to see the musical "Chicago." Additional trips are planned to see "The Sound of Music" at Stages in Kirkwood, Mo. on Aug. 8 for the 2 p.m. matinee with lunch at Kimmswick. On Sept. 8, a trip is planned to Draffenville, Ky., to hear humorist Carl Hurley, with dinner at Patti's Old Time Settlement.

The program, "Hearth Fire #20, Someone's in the USA ... Making Plans to Travel," was discussed by all members.

Members received gifts from their secret pals. All members brought food items for the Jackson Ministerial Alliance Food Pantry.

Club out will be at El Torero at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

The next meeting will be the club's family picnic at 6:30 p.m. July 12 to be held in Jackson City Park next to Safety City. The club will provide fried chicken. Lois Seabaugh and Jones are in charge of arrangements.

American Legion Auxiliary 63

American Legion Auxiliary Unit 63 held its annual picnic on June 13 at Arena Park. There were 38 members and guests present. Ham and sloppy joes were provided by the auxiliary. Special guests were lady veterans, including Connie Hardy, Mildred Miget and Cheryl Smith, as well as Eleanora Brewton, Normandy Meyers and Yvonne Sale of the Missouri Veterans Home. Each lady was presented with a red rose corsage and a monetary gift.

Members were reminded of the American Legion picnic beginning at noon on July 4 at Arena Park. This is a covered dish meal, with brats and burgers provided.

There was no business conducted.

The next meeting will be at noon July 11 at the post home.

Cathryn Allison dismissed the group following the closing prayer.

New McKendree UMW

The New McKendree United Methodist Women met on June 5 in the church fellowship hall. Doris Dace, vice president, opened the meeting with members reciting of the UMW Purpose. The program titled "Christian Calendar Year" was given by the Mary and Martha Circle.

The minutes were read by Marica Eggers, secretary, and approved. The treasurer's report was given by Marilyn Fronabarger and approved.

Program reports given by:

Edith Eggers, secretary of program resources, announced she had a resource article on Poverty for anyone going to the School of Missions.

Inez Statler gave the spiritual growth report in Pat Lynn's absence on prayers for church members attending annual conference and the pumpkin poem.

Penny Green, social action, announced that the five food packs for annual conference were purchased and packed. All circles were encouraged to donate cash or supplies for the June meeting to give to the Suzanna Wesley Learning Center. Dace gave each circle a list of supplies for the school kit and reminded the members to bring completed school kits to the September UMW meeting. They will be delivered on Sept. 29 to the Mini Festival of Sharing in Dexter, Mo. Please complete kits exactly as requested and consider donating the $2 shipping expense. Cloth bags have been completed by Margie Crites and Patsy Johnson.

Dace announced that the School of Missions registration is due July 1 and there is funding for two additional persons to attend. It will be Aug. 25 at First United Methodist Church in Poplar Bluff, Mo.

Statler, membership/nurture and outreach, visited Lucille Fowler at The Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

Amy Cook gave mission ribbons' report.

Elwanda Corbin gave supportive community report that a meal was served for the Kuehn family.

It was announced that the van has been reserved for 9 a.m. Monday to go to East Prairie, Mo., to tour the Susanna Wesley Learning Center and present them a check. Call Klaproth if interested in going.

The United Methodist Men will have a fish fry on Aug. 25 with the following cake assignment: Esther, five, Hope, five, Mary and Martha, five, Wesleyan, three and members at large, three.

The Mary and Martha Circle received the attendance ribbon. Two new members, Ruth Vargee and Margee McGee, received mission ribbons. A new Circle will begin at West Campus.

Members at large hosted the Jackson Manor birthday party June 6, Mary and Martha will host the party on July 3 at 2 p.m. and Wesleyan will host on Aug. 7 at 2 p.m. and Esther will host the party on Sept. 4 at 2 p.m.

Julie Combs gave a report on the 100-Mile Yard Sale with a profit of $9,125.59.

Date to remember: Sept 28 and 29 the annual meeting will be held at United Methodist Church at Bridgeton, Mo.

The next meeting will be a salad luncheon at 10 a.m. Sept. 4 with everyone bringing a salad. Dace will present the program.

Meeting was closed with a reading from the Prayer Calendar. Refreshments were served by the Hope Circle.
