High Noon Toastmasters

High Noon Toastmasters Club has been awarded a certificate of recognition by Toastmasters International on the celebration of the club's 55th anniversary.

Officers for July 2015 through June 2016 were elected as follows: Christy LeGrand of Benton, Missouri, president; Michal Sue Prosser-Burlison of Wardell, Missouri, vice president of education; Arielle Bohnert of Cape Girardeau, vice president of membership; Ellen Kirchdoerfer of Cape Girardeau, vice president of publicity; Dr. William E. Meyer of Cape Girardeau, secretary/treasurer; and Evony Thomas of Cape Girardeau, sergeant at arms.

Toastmasters strive to build communication and speaking skills. High Noon Toastmasters meet at noon every Tuesday at Church of Christ Fellowship Hall in Cape Girardeau. For more information call 334-3130.

Kage FCE Club

Sharon Aldredge was hostess when the Kage FCE Club met June 11 at Cape Girardeau Senior Center for their regular monthly meeting. Dortha Strack presided. The devotional, "A Penny on the Sidewalk" was presented by Jobyna Daume.

Dortha's tip of the day: To unstick old postage stamps that are stuck together, place them under a damp cloth and steam them with an iron.

A thank-you note from State FCE President, Edna Crain, was received for Kage Club's 70th Year Anniversary Cookbook. The cookbook was presented to her at the recent Spring District Meeting in May. Judie Herbst reported there are still a few cookbooks for sale. Six were sold at this meeting.

Cards were sent to Shirley Palen and Judy Moore, who was a former member.

A donation of $100 was donated for Dortha's Clover Kids Camp that was held June 7 at Cape Girardeau County Park. Clover Kids are ages 5 to 7 and are too young to belong to a 4-H Club. The members also brought food for the FISH Food Pantry.

It was reported that 42 weighted blankets, 12 lap pads and six neck snakes were completed at the autism workshop June 2 at the University of Missouri Extension Center in Jackson. This is a Cape County project.

Sarah Ross reported on the FCE Proclamation with the mayor of Jackson. Ross and Palen attended.

Two members from Young Americans 4-H Club presented demonstrations: Lauren McClanahan presented five tips for a better picture and Belinda Strack presented food labels/organic and nonorganic.

The club program, labeling organic food, was presented by Daume.

Ramona Brinkopf will be hostess for the July 9 meeting at the senior center.

VFW Post 3838 Auxiliary

The June meeting of VFW Post 3838 Auxiliary was held June 8 at the post home in Cape Girardeau.

Sandy Prichard presided. New members are Leslie Mattock, June Owens, Donna Miller, Sue Gereke, April Martin, Donna Lacy and Rebecca Sanders.

It was reported the post and auxiliary again sponsored the Summer Reading program at Cape Girardeau Public Library and furnished two bicycles as awards.

The recent Buddy Poppy Drive was a big success and deep appreciation is extended to all who worked or donated money.

The state convention was recently held in Springfield and our auxiliary sister Sheila Allen was elected and installed as department president and auxiliary sister Teresa Payne has been installed as District 15th president. Other members attending were Debbie Griffin, Judy Thrower, Glenneta Vogelsang and Helen Heise.

Auxiliary president for 2015-2016 is Sandy Prichard; secretary-treasurer is LaDonna Hengst; senior vice president is Dale Humphries; and junior vice president is Debbie Houck

Upcoming events include: June 21, post and auxiliary sponsored Fathers Day meal and bingo at Missouri Veterans Home; June 27, bingo at Veterans Home sponsored by post and auxiliary; July 4, picnic at the lake property; and July 13, post and auxiliary meeting at 7 p.m.

Cape Girardeau County FCE

The Cape Girardeau County FCE met June 4 at the University of Missouri Extension Office in Jackson for its quarterly council meeting. President Shirley Palen called the meeting to order. The devotion was given by Judie Herbst. She read the story of "The Donkey Who Fell in the Well" by Yvonne Buessue.

Eleven members from five clubs answered roll call: Kage, one; Lamplighters, two; Oak Ridge Homemakers, three; Town and Country, two; and Cheerful Country Doers, three. The minutes of the March meeting were read by Herbst in the absence of Mary Klaproth, secretary, who was ill. The minutes were approved. Jean Rehak gave the treasurer's report, which was accepted.

Jo Ann Hahs gave a report on the FCE Spring District Meeting, which was held May 7 with 61 members and several guests attending.

Strack reported that applications for the FCE scholarship should be turned in as soon as possible.

The Tour Committee reported that there were 30 people planning on attending the trip to The Muny this summer.

It was announced that the Fall District FCE meeting will be Oct. 13 at Brazeau Community Building in Brazeau, Missouri. Perry County will host the meeting, which includes a program on "Care Givers for People With Dementia."

The State FCE Conference will be Sept. 30 through Oct. 2 in Osage Beach, Missouri. Members attending are asked to bring items to be donated to the victims of sex trafficking who have been rescued.

A committee was appointed to be responsible for a tri-fold to be prepared for the state meeting showing events which have happened involving our group over the past 79 years. Herbst will be the chairman, and would like to have suggestions from anyone in the group.

A report was given on the last autism workshop held June 2. Twenty-one members and two visitors completed 42 weighted blankets, 12 lap pads and three neck snakes, most of which were delivered to the Easter Seals center the following day. The next workday for making blankets is Oct. 29.
