The Town and Country FCE met at IHOP restaurant in Cape Girardeau on June 9 to celebrate the club's 50-year anniversary. Hostesses for the event were Mary Klaproth, Linda Thompson and Darlene McCain.

A devotion titled "Early June Morn" was given by Thompson. Roll call was answered by members recalling their fondest memory of the club. The minutes from the previous meeting were read by Sue Jones, secretary. Thank-you notes were read for the donation of fans to the Salvation Army and from the Jackson Ministerial Alliance Food Pantry for donated items from the club. The minutes were approved as read. Donna Woolsey gave the treasurer's report, which was approved as read. Coins for Friendship were collected and also proceeds from the May member activity calendar.

A brief business meeting was led by Klaproth, president. She reported Thompson, Woolsey, Jones and herself had given an end-of-school party at Parkview State School on May 20. She also thanked Lois Seabaugh for delivering "Books for Newborns" to Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

Karen Murphy, Klaproth, McCain, Thompson and Woolsey attended the weighted blanket work day at the University of Missouri Extension office on June 11.

The following announcements were made by the president: The MAFCE annual meeting will be held Sept. 28 and 29 at Osage Beach, Missouri. The deadline for first-time attendee scholarships is July 13. The National FCE meeting will be held in Memphis, Tennessee, July 14 through 17. The annual club picnic will be held at 6:30 p.m. on July 14, with members' families invited as guests. The location of the picnic will be announced at a later date. Hostesses for the picnic will be Murphy, Woolsey and Seabaugh.

The program was given by charter member Thompson, who read the history of the first 20 years of the club. Many pictures, international recipe books and newspaper articles were on display. A special birthday cake was served to members.

Club out was planned for June 28 by traveling to the Blue Boar Restaurant in Cobden, Illinois. Members will meet at 10:45 a.m. in the parking lot by Dexter Bar-B-Que in Jackson to carpool to the event.

New McKendree UMW

The New McKendree United Methodist Women met June 7 in the church fellowship hall with 19 members present. The meeting was called to order by Mary Klaproth, president, followed by the unit reciting the UMW Purpose. Two members from the Jackson School District presented the program on "Backpacks for Friday," a program that provides food assistance to eligible students during the school year. Pam Buck, secretary, read the minutes from the previous meeting and they were approved as read. Four pieces of correspondence were read. Marilyn Fronabarger, treasurer, gave a treasurer's report of $17,129.79 local funds on hand. A total of $14,106.50 was received from the 100-Mile Yard Sale.

Chairperson reports:

Spiritual growth: Julie Combs gave the devotion titled "Help is on the way."

Social action: Bonnie Blechle reminded members the June collection was for the Susanna Wesley Family Learning Center. She also suggested members bring snack items for the Backpacks program. Combs made a motion that members bring the items to the next unit meeting. The motion was seconded by Donna Mason. Motion passed.

Education and interpretation: Shirley Patterson highlighted reading program ideas from the "Response" magazine. Members also were reminded about Mission U to be held July 28 through 31 in Fayette, Missouri.

Ribbons: Elwanda Corbin made available new ribbons.

Bereavement: Donna Mason reported one meal had been served this past month for the Joyce Baker family.

Day Apart will be held Saturday at New McKendree's south campus. Doris Dace will lead the program. Gordonville UMW will furnish the morning refreshments.

Members-at-large hosted the Jackson Manor birthday party June 13 and Hope Circle will host in July.

It was reported that $925.93 was collected from candle burning on UMW weekend.

Combs thanked everyone who helped with the 100-Mile Yard Sale.

New McKendree UMW will help at the SEMO Food Bank in Sikeston, Missouri, on June 27.

Those who have signed up to help assemble lunches for the Mobile Day Camp the week of July 4 are to be at the High Street location by 10 a.m. each day.

The club will again collect items for the school kits for ShareFest to be held in Dexter, Missouri, on Oct. 1. These items need to be turned in by Sept. 20.

The next meeting will be held Sept. 6 and will be a salad luncheon with a style show by members sharing items they purchased at the yard sale.

Combs read from the Charter for Racial Justice and Klaproth closed the meeting with a reading from the prayer calendar.

Cape County FCE

Twenty-one workers from five Cape Girardeau County FCE clubs and several visitors met June 7 at the University of Missouri Extension in Jackson to create weighted blankets, lap pads and neck snakes for autistic children. These workers made 37 weighted blankets, 11 lap pads and seven neck snakes, which were then delivered on June 8 to the Easter Seals office in Cape Girardeau for distribution to those who had requested to receive one.

The next workshop will be in the fall.
