The New McKendree United Methodist Women met May 1 in the church fellowship hall with 31 members present. The meeting was opened with the reciting of the UMW Purpose.
The minutes were read by Gale King, secretary, and Marilyn Fronabarger, treasurer, gave the treasurer's report. They were approved.
Mary Klaproth, president, reported that the $600 included in the UMW budget for youth would be given to the youth for church camp.
Eglenna Davis moved to give $125 to send five food packs to annual conference to donate to families in need.
Tina Crites introduced Shirley Hollowell, who gave a program on the Amen Center. This center is in the old grade-school building in Delta. The center serves as a safe harbor for children and parents as well as single persons who need time to get back on their feet.
Edith Eggers, secretary of program resources, announced that there are three new books in the library and that the "Response Magazine" is in and there is good information in the magazine on poverty that may be used for programs if anyone is interested.
Klaproth reminded the group that School of Mission will be July 26 through 29. Registration for the event will be due by July 1. There is funding for three members to attend at $200 each.
Amy Cook gave the program speaker a mission ribbon. Cook urged all members to save "Best Choice" labels. The unit will receive $30 for every 1,000 labels collected. Gladys Nitsch turned in 10 bags of 100 labels.
The Social Action project for next month is to give to the food pantry.
Day Apart will be hosted by New McKendree at Old McKendree on June 23.
Crites reported that the Esther Circle made $940 on their bake sale.
Pam Jones reported on the bowling banquet meals served by the Esther and Mary Martha circles.
Julie Combs reminded members to make plans to bring items to the South Campus for the 100-Mile Yard Sale on May 24 through 26. She also asked for helpers.
Klaproth gave a report on the successful UMW Weekend and that $1,060.52 was given for candle burning.
The next meeting will be on June 5 with the Mary and Martha Circle presenting the program and the Hope Circle serving refreshments.
The April meeting of Oak Ridge FCE club meeting was called to order by Jean Rehak, president. The devotion was given by Marilyn Retherford with the following poems: "Face Lines," Influence," and "Peace Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi."
There were 14 members present.
Nelda Crader gave the secretary's report, and Billie Criddle gave the treasurer's report. Both were approved.
National Day of the Family (Books for Newborns) is scheduled for May 15. The club will purchase four books for members with new babies in the family.
Rehak announced the next scheduled work day for making autism items will be at 9 a.m. June 5 at University of Missouri Extension Center in Jackson.
Lee Anderson collected Pennies for Friendship and Betty Dellinger collected for the flower fund.
Oak Ridge FCE was at the Missouri Veterans Home on April 23 with Barbara Barks, Peggy Barks, Rehak, Anderson, and Dellinger attending helping the veterans play bingo.
Crader gave a program titled "It's Not Too Late to ... Re-educate."
Hostesses for the meeting were Anderson, Crader and Dellinger.
