Sons of the American Revolution

The Sons of the American Revolution met April 19 at the Cape Girardeau County Archive Center in Jackson. Members can trace their ancestors back to a patriot in the American Revolutionary War. Members in attendance were Wendel Miller, Steven Pledger, Dr. Jerry Driver, Dr. Walter Schroeder, Ron Beasley, Leon Lefler, Thad Lake and Randy McLain.

McLain, a new member, was presented with a rosette and certificate. His ancestor was Alexander McLain who settled in the area after the war. Beasley was presented with a Supplemental Ancestor Certificate designating a second ancestor, Enos Randol, a patriot who settled in the area after the war. Both members have many relatives in the area that can trace their heritage back to the Revolutionary War.

Miller, president, is in the process of sending out ROTC awards to many high schools in the area. The Chapter Color Guard will present the colors on June 11 at the Kimbeland Golf Club. The organization is planning to mark local graves of Revolutionary War soldiers and to raise funds to purchase a replica of each flag this country has flown. They will be displayed with their history for the public. The SAR was instrumental in the creation of Flag Day.

Anyone interested in tracing their ancestors back to the Revolutionary War to become members of the SAR may contact Lefler at 335-6778 or Miller at 334-1415. The next meeting will be at 6 p.m. May 17 at Dexter Bar-B-Q in Cape Girardeau.

Exchange Club

The Exchange Club of Cape Girardeau met April 6 and 20 at Port Cape. Ferd Sturm presented the students of the month at the April 6 meeting. Clarence Lohman presented the program for the April 20 meeting.

The club picnic will be June 1 at Cape County Park South at shelter 22. The youth of the year will be invited to the picnic. Cletus Todt and other members will do the cooking starting around 3 p.m. The club will furnish the meat and drinks. Members with last names that start from A to D will bring desserts, those with last names starting with E to Q will bring salads and those with last names from R to Z will bring vegetables.

The next meeting will be May 18 with Rich Behring scheduled to present the program.

The Lamplighters FCE Club met on April 15 at the home of Judy Meyers. The hostess gave the devotionals, "The Pearls" and "Darts."

A report was given by JoAnn Hahs on the visit to and donation of Easter candy, foods and toys for the club's adopted family.

President Linda Sebaugh finalized plans for those attending the Spring Southeast Missouri District meeting and lunch held Tuesday in Doniphan, Mo.

A vote passed that the club would donate money to the Missouri FCE Foundation in memory of Verna Dell Petzoldt.

All decided to make donations to a benefit dinner for the Joggerst family to be held June 12 at New Salem United Methodist Church in Daisy. A surprise birthday card shower was held for member Bev Meyers.

Jackie Kurre gave the program on low maintenance landscaping. The next meeting will be held May 20 at the home of Roberta Seabaugh.

Alpha Mu Master

Alpha Mu Master Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi attended the Annual All-Chapter Founders Day Banquet presented by Epsilon Nu Chapter held recently at Centenary United Methodist Church Family Life Center.

Entertainment was provided by a choral group from Notre Dame Regional High School. Marilyn Schwab was presented the Woman of the Year award for Alpha Mu Master Chapter.

The next monthly meeting will be held at the home of Gwen Nussbaum on Monday.
