Oak Ridge FCE

Oak Ridge Homemakers FCE Club met May 18 with Jean Rehak serving hostess, at the Elks Lodge in Jackson for their May meeting. Mary Dee Ford gave a devotion on "America's older generation month" and concluded with a prayer given on "National Day of Prayer" earlier in the month.

During the business meeting, Billie Criddle reported that Steve Bowman from Oak Ridge School would be sponsored by the Oak Ridge FCE Club and Lamplighter FCE Club at Boy's State this summer, the cost to each club being $175.

Rehak, club president, announced that the new digital camera was now ready to use and club pictures were made at the recent work day project, making Autism blankets. Barb Barks was one of the people who helped take the seven large blankets and nine lap quilts to the Autism Center in Cape Girardeau. The next work day will be June 14.

Nelda Crader, Mariesa Lesch, and Marilyn Retherford attended the Spring meeting held in Doniphan, Mo. On the same day in Jackson, other club members had conducted a successful yard sale for the Oak Ridge Club. The club also extended the sale on the following Friday.

New business included announcement of the Cape County FCE Council meeting to be at 7 p.m. on June 3 at the University of Missouri Extension Center. Several members plan to attend.

This month's project will be securing food products for a needy family whose father has leukemia. Lee Anderson and Betty Dellinger will shop for the groceries.

Lesch volunteered to give the program on barbeque. She attended the leader training for this particular program.

Barks reported she had mailed her scholarship entry to the district director on May 10. The FCE State Conference to be held in St. Louis in September was discussed and some members may attend.

The Club Out for July was announced and members will make a decision on the location at the June meeting.

Dellinger and Lesch presented an informative program on hospice.

The next meeting will be June 15, at the Elks Lodge with all attending bringing refreshments since member Melva Floyd is recovering from a broken ankle and is recovering at the Jackson Manor, Room 31.

Lamplighters FCE Club

The Lamplighters FCE club met in the home of Dorothy Hahs on May 20 for their regularly scheduled meeting. After Karen McLane, president, called the meeting to order, members repeated the "Pledge of Allegiance" and the club collect, and Sharon Bogenpohl led in singing. The hostess had a display of her mother's handkerchiefs and gave a devotional thought entitled "Mom's Marvelous Handkerchief;" she also shared thoughts entitled "Graduation Car." There were 10 members were present.

It was reported that the Oak Ridge Yard Sale held April 24, which closed at 9:00 a.m. because of rain, yielded a profit of $400.

A committee of Linda Sebaugh and Jackie Kurre are to investigate and pursue having a Lamplighter FCE vinyl sign made to use at yard sales and auctions.

Six Lamplighters' members participated in the county work day to make weighted blankets on May 10. There were seven weighted blankets and eight weighted lap pads were completed that day.

They were delivered on May 11 by 4 Cape County FCE members, Barbara Barks, Mary Klaproth, Barbara Mrshall, and Jo Ann Hahs to the TouchPoint Autism Center in Cape Girardeau.

Karen McLane and Jo Ann Hahs represented the Lamplighters FCE at the "FCE-The Song in Your Heart" Spring district meeting held in Doniphan, Mo., on May 6. Nancy Richmond, state president, and Mary Martens, state vice president, presented programs.

Teresa Hinkebein and Jackie Kurre delivered nine "Books for the Newborn" on May 15 to Southeast Missouri Hospital and to St. Francis Medical Center in honor of the Day of the Family.

Seven members read three books, "Here's to You," "Dewey Doo-It," and "Twas the Night Before Summer" to the kindergarten through 5th grade classes at Oak Ridge Elementary. The club presented 24 books, aprons, and props to the school.

Members voted to send $200 to the SEMO Food Bank.

Bert Seyer and Karen Eaker are the committee members to plan the theme for Lamplighters fair booth entry at the Southeast Missouri District Fair.

Members are to bring two signed cards for Military Mail for area servicemen to the June meeting.

Sebaugh, Eaker and Hahs will represent Lamplighters at the June 3 County Council meeting.

Beta Sigma Phi

Beta Sigma Phi of Xi Nu Phi met for the last meeting of the year at the home of Susan Benson. We enjoyed a salad and dessert dinner, reveal night for secret pals and "Girl of the year" award given to Sharon Hinkebein.

Installation of officers was also performed.

Chapter meetings and committee assignments were decided for the new year.

A wine trip is scheduled in October as the first social activity. Husbands will be invited, also.
