The Xi Nu Phi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met May 15 at the home of Sheryl Smith.
The Founder's Day banquet held April 30 was enjoyed by those who attended and they shared what they learned about the Hope Children's Home in Jackson.
The 2012-2013 Standing Committee list was distributed. A committee has been formed for the Beginning Day celebration which the chapter is hosting. Members will meet throughout the summer to finalize plans.
Members plan to attend a winery this summer. Secret pal names were revealed and gifts exchanged and names were drawn for the next year.
The New Salem United Methodist Women met at the home of Shirley Grebe for the May meeting with ten members present. The meeting was opened by Margie Roberts, president. The secretary and treasurer's reports were given and approved.
Jackie Kurre and Roberta Martin gave a report on their recent mission trip to Henderson, Ky. Kurre announced the new picnic table purchased by the UMW was in place on the church grounds.
Betty Henry presented a program on trusting the Lord to calm us. Plans were made for the annual birthday party to be held at the June meeting. Members will have lunch at Bayou Bar and Grill in Pocahontas and then the meeting and gift exchange will be held at the church.
Jean Rehak, president of Oak Ridge FCE, opened the meeting May 15 at the Elks Lodge in Jackson.
Devotion was given by Nelda Crader "How to stay young" which had 10 rules.
Crader, secretary, read the secretary's report and Billie Criddle gave the treasurer's report. Both were approved.
Roll call for the meeting was "An interesting place in Missouri."
Rehak gave a report on the spring meeting held April 24 at Farrar, Mo. There were approximately 75 in attendance from around the Southeast section of Missouri. Eight members from Oak Ridge FCE Club attended.
The quarterly council meeting will be June 7 at University of Missouri Extension Office in Jackson.
Marilyn Retherford reported her book on child literacy placed first in state FCE. This past year all fourth graders in Cape Girardeau County had the opportunity to write an essay on citizenship.
The program from the Hearth Fire Series "Someone in the kitchen cooking for one or two" was given by Carole Jo Byrd.
Pennies for Friendship and the flower fund were collected and given to Lee Anderson and Betty Dellinger.
Project of the month was Books for Newborn.
Bingo at the Veterans Home was held May 21.
