Jackson Heritage Association
The Jackson Heritage Association met Wednesday at the Oliver House Museum in Jackson for the monthly meeting of the board of directors.
Members are encouraged to donate items (no clothes) for the 100-Mile Garage Sale on Saturday at the South Elementary School parking lot. For more information on donating items or having items picked up, call Kevin Schearf at 243-0761.
The association has been notified by the Local Records Program of the secretary of state's office that they have been awarded a grant to provide an acid-free environment for and index the Jackson Heritage Association's archival holdings.
On June 2, the association will be host to the River Heritage Association for an evening barbecue on the grounds of the Oliver House. Work continues on painting and maintenance of the front and side porches. The next open house for the Oliver House is set for 1:30 p.m. on July 4.

Xi Nu Phi
The Xi Nu Phi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met May 18 at the home of Debbie Balsano. It was reported that the chapter yardstick has been completed and submitted. The scrapbook was presented to the chapter president.
Officer pins and perfect attendance charms were distributed to members. Reports were given by the Beginning Day Committee and the Convention Committee. New yearbook pages were passed out and committees were announced for the next year. Secret pal names were revealed and gifts were exchanged.
The next meeting will be Sept. 7 at the home of Tammy Monia.
Lions Club
The Missouri Lions 82nd annual State Convention was held April 29 through May 2 at the Holiday Inn in Joplin, Mo. Presiding was council chairman, Duane Nauman.
Special guest speaker was International second vice president Ashok Mehta of Mumbai, India.
Lions Club members from Cape Girardeau who attended were Randy Bartlett, past district governor, Allen and Laurie Taylor, Ed Tilley, Dorothy Cox and Mary Estes.
Next year's state convention will be held at the Frontenac Hilton in St. Louis.
Oak Ridge FCE
The May meeting of the Oak Ridge FCE Club was held with 13 members and one guest in attendance. Billie Criddle of Oak Ridge was the hostess.
Carolyn Jo Byrd reported on attending a volunteer appreciation day for volunteers serving at Jackson Manor during the year. She received a certificate that was presented to the club and will be used for the club's book of achievements.
Barbara Brown presented the program on health and HIPPA. Also presenting programs were Jean Rahak on improving air quality and Nelda Crader on women and depression.
The club, having decided to aid the Green Bear Project Group, a child abuse organization, decided to have a club out day and work on green bears to be given to children throughout the year. This will be held on July 20 at the Elks Club hall. They will make the bears as well as have lunch prepared by the club chef.
Announcements for the meeting included the county council meeting to be held June 3; military mail drive to be completed before Aug. 26; state conference in Columbia; upcoming Cape Girardeau County Council tours; and scholarship applications.
The next meeting will be June 18 at 11 a.m. at the Elks Club hall when an international meal will be prepared by Kim Begley, Betty Dellinger and Crader. The meal will feature a Romanian menu. Clubs throughout the state are studying this country as the special project of study.
East Side Homemakers
The East Side Homemakers Club met at Delmonico's restaurant in Jackson on May 19 for lunch. Helen Humes gave the devotionals "Who you are makes a difference" and "20 good reasons to worship God." Loretta Atkins read the minutes of the last meeting. Violet Reynolds led a program of show and tell.
The next meeting will be a potluck dinner on June 16 at Janet Piepenbrock's house.
Roberts Homemakers Club
Members of the Roberts Homemakers Club went to Bollinger Mill and Covered Bridge Park in Burfordville for their May meeting.
They enjoyed demonstrations of the early settlers' milling methods and uses of the local farm products.
The club will meet at Pizza Inn in Fruitland for lunch prior to the June meeting. They will then go to Riverside Regional Library in Jackson for the meeting.
Wonderworkers FCE
The Wonderworkers FCE Extension Club met at the home of Dorothy Lichtenegger on May 12. The meeting was called to order by chairwoman June Landgraf.
The group discussed the FCE blood drive planned for July 1 and the FCE Council meeting planned at the Extension Office on June 3. Members were reminded of upcoming FCE tours.
Nelda Starzinger gave the program on creating a healthier home.
A day out is planned for FCE members and friends for the June meeting.
