Town and Country FCE Club met May 14 with Lois Seabaugh as hostess. She gave the devotion entitled, "I planted my garden today."

Pennies were collected for Coins for Friendship. Thank-you notes were read from Cottonwood Residential Treatment Center and Kage FCE Club.

Darlene McCain, president, conducted the business meeting. A June calendar money-making project was distributed to all members. Members discussed the Southeast spring district meeting which was held May 7 at University of Missouri Extension Center. Town and Country Club received a certificate for community successful report.

McCain had applications available for members to apply for a scholarship to the National FCE Conference to be held July 23 through 26 in Blue Springs, Missouri, and applications for the MAFCE Conference to be held Oct. 1 and 2 at Osage Beach, Missouri. These scholarships are available for first-time attendees.

Members approved to continue with the 6:30 p.m. starting time for meetings.

In recognition of National Day of the Family, Town and Country members brought books to the meeting and labels were put in the books. Seabaugh will deliver the books to Southeast Hospital to be given to newborns and children. McCain announced the club will sponsor an end-of-school party for students at Parkview State School with members furnishing the treats.

Fans will be purchased by Sue Jones to be given to Salvation Army May 28. The club will purchase a luminary in memory of loved ones of the club for the Relay for Life. Seabaugh is in charge.

Mary Klaproth announced Cape Girardeau County FCE clubs are sponsoring a trip to The Muny June 16 to see "My Fair Lady". Reservations are due June 2.

The next weighted blanket workday will be June 2 at the extension center. The blankets will later be given to persons with autism.

The program was presented by Joyce King on quick and healthy meals. In addition, Hearth Fire #27, Someone's in the USA saying ... Show Me the Power of Healing Foods was discussed with all members participating.

Club out will be 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Hickory House Restaurant in Jackson. Members are to bring food items for Jackson Ministerial Alliance Food Pantry.

The next meeting will be June 11 at IHOP Restaurant in Cape Girardeau. This will be the 49th anniversary of the formation of the club. Linda Thompson, charter member, and Joyce King are in charge of arrangements.

American Legion Auxiliary

The Louis K. Juden American Legion Auxiliary Unit 63 met May 13 with 18 members present. Linda Kern, Tina Bell and Alice Cordia served the noon luncheon, using a fiesta theme.

Items brought for the Amen Center will be delivered by Jane Grojean. Muriel Day will send out get-well cards to members Patsy Kimbrel, Dorothy Klein and Reba Strayhorn. A letter was read from Vicki Wilson, district president. Grojean spoke about the Amen Center's need of a new roof. It was voted to send another donation to help out with this project.

Kern, membership chairman, reported that the unit has not met goal for the year and she went over the qualifications for membership. Vicki Watling was welcomed as a new member and Becky Almond was a guest.

A discussion to help a veteran get a new wheelchair was tabled for more information.

Members volunteered to provide angel food cakes for the veterans birthday parties for the rest of the year. The birthday parties are the second Monday each month at 2 p.m. Help is always needed and members are urged to participate.

The June meeting will be at the home of John and Barbara Yallaly. A lunch will be served and bingo will be played. The July 8 meeting will be canceled. The July 4 post gathering is a family event so all are welcome. The men will grill and it will be a covered dish meal.

Before dismissal, an article was read entitled "Why Yard Sales are so Important."

John Guild Chapter NSDAR

The regular meeting of the John Guild Chapter April 22 was hosted by member Annette Rolfe and her husband Frank at their home in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri.

Following the business meeting, Frank gave a tour of their home. The house served as the first public school west of the Mississippi River, incorporated by the United States government in 1808. In 1819, it became the first school in the western hemisphere taught by Christian Brothers, sent under King Louis XVIII. Gen. Firmin Rozier became headmaster in 1848 and built the brick addition in 1854. The school remained in operation until the Civil War.

The chapter and Missouri State Society Daughters of the American Revolution dedicated the Ste. Genevieve Academy Louisiana Territory Sept. 20, 2009.

The current owners moved here from Dallas, Texas, about 10 years ago. They have collected an amazing array of paintings and period furniture.

Members who attended were Pam Johnson; Marti Strickland, chapter regent; Morgan Lake, state regent and chapter registrar; Lorilee Short, state corresponding secretary and chapter treasurer; Marjorie Swan; Earlene Sokolowski; Shirley Young; Julie Robinson, chapter vice regent; Adelaide Parsons; Jerre Crites; Jan Chamberlain; Kay Burford, and Patsy Johnson.
