The Town and Country FCE Club met May 9 with Brenda Pender as hostess.
The devotion was given by Brenda Pender titled "Mother." Brenda Pender gave the treasurer's report with a balance of $269.06 in the treasury. Pennies were collected for Coins for Friendship.
Darlene McCain presided over the business meeting. Thank-you notes were read from the Lutheran Home for the donation of bingo prizes and Jackson Ministerial Alliance Food Pantry for the donation of food items.
Linda Thompson reported on the Spring District meeting in Doniphan, Missouri, which was held April 29.
A decision was made to buy more flowers for the club's flower bed at the University of Missouri Extension Center in Jackson. Sue Jones and McCain will be in charge of purchasing the flowers and mulch. On April 13 members Aleen Hamilton, Jones and McCain assisted with trimming and weeding of plants at the Extension Center.
The date for the club's garage sale was changed due to a conflict. It is now planned for June. Information on the date will be forthcoming from McCain at a later date.
The National Day of the Family proclamation signing was changed from April 15 to April 13. Thompson represented the club at the proclamation signing which took place at Municipal Court in Cape Girardeau
A motion was made by Lois Seabaugh to give a donation of $20 to Clover Kid's Day Camp. The motion was seconded by Pender and the motion was approved.
The end of school party will be held at Parkview State School Friday. Jones will purchase a decorated cake for the party, McCain will pick up ice cream at Prairie Farms, Seabaugh will bring plates, napkins, and utensils, and Thompson will provide the punch for drinks.
The president made an announcement that the Cape Girardeau County FCE Council meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on June 6 at the University of Missouri Extension Center upper level.
Karen Murphy gave the program on house dust mites and suggestions on how to control them.
Club out will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Tractor's in Jackson.
Thompson announced that the next club meeting will be the club's anniversary party at 6 p.m. on June 13 at Port Cape. Members are to bring bingo prizes for the Lutheran Home to the meeting.
The Torchbearer Iota Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met May 13 at the home of Martha Slaten with all 16 members present. Before the meeting the Exemplar Degree Ritual was given for Carole Rhodes and Patty Taylor.
Communications were the following thank-you notes: from Carole Calvin for being chosen as the club's "Woman of the Year; from Epsilon Epsilon, Beta Xi Master, and Xi Epsilon Nu Chapters for hosting Founders Day; A verbal thank you was received at Founders Day from Ruth Moreland's daughter-in-law for honoring Ruth Moreland for being a 60-year member of Beta Sigma Phi.
The Torchbearer Iota Chapter Golden Circle recipients signifying their 50 years of membership were again congratulated on their achievement. They are Judie Herbst, Marsha Parrish, Marilyn Schwab, Bobbie Woodard and Calvin.
Mary Schwab will receive the Ritual at Chateau Girardeau at a later date.
Calvin gave a report on the BSP city council meeting on May 3 at the Cape Girardeau Public Library that included the new officers. They are: Ellen McAuley, president; Debbie Balsano, vice-president elect; and Wanda Darby, treasurer. The recording secretary will be appointed at a later date.
Events planned for this summer will be a pizza party and review of chapter scrapbooks on June 20 at the home of Judie Herbst; dinner out on July 18 at Mui Bueno; and dinner out on Aug. 15 at Katie O'Ferrell's. These events will all begin at 6:30 pm.
Certificates were presented to members by outgoing president Slaten for assorted chapter accomplishments this chapter year. Slaten was presented a gavel and gift card of appreciation for being president this past year.
A vote was taken for "program of the year" and the chapter survey was distributed to be returned at the next meeting.
The closing ritual was repeated followed by the installation of officers.
The next meeting will be at at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Beef'O'Brady's in Cape Girardeau. Secret pals will be revealed, new secret pals will be drawn and new officers will take over their new offices.
