St. Mary Council of Catholic Women met on April 15 in the Huels Room. The meeting was opened with prayer to Our Lady of Good Counsel. Pat Eftink distributed copies of the treasurer's report.
Thank you notes for the bereavement dinner for Robert Hendrix were read and from Migrant Whole Health. The Easter baskets were appreciated.
Becky McLean, church commission chair, reported receptions were served after the Chrism Mass and after the Easter Vigil.
Kate Schaefer, legislative commission chair, reported there is no coverage for elective abortions in the health care bill. We must watch as "elective" is being discussed.
Dolores Gibbar announced two bereavement dinners were served.
Eftink reported on the spring retreat held at St. John Parish in Leopold, Mo., on March 27.
We will be baking for the fundraiser for the David Lowes family to be held in May.
A May crowning and rosary will be held at our next meeting on Thursday in the Huels Room.
The meeting closed with prayer and refreshments were enjoyed.
The Capaha Scottish Rite Women's club met May 10 at Delmonico's in Jackson.
The next meeeting will be June 14 at Delmonico's. This will be the installation of officers for the following year. The new officers are: Luella Armstrong, president; Doris Hurst, vice president; Norma Yost, secretary; and Mary Mouser, treasurer.
Job's Daughters Bethel 60 of Jackson is under the leadership of Michelle Maevers as the honored queen. There are currently 24 members and the club is one of the largest Bethels in the state of Missouri.
The group traveled to St. Charles, Mo., for the state Mini Session in March, helped at a New McKendree United Methodist Men's fish fry, delivered hand made greeting cards to residents of Jackson Manor in April and had their official visit from the Grand officers of Missouri.
Joelyne Nelson, grand guardian; Butch Carpenter, associate grand guardian; and Jennifer Hallahan, grand Bethel honored queen were among some of the guests present at the meeting on April 9. A trivia night was held at the Jackson Middle school on April 30 as a fund raiser for the group. They will be headed to Jefferson City, Mo., in June for their annual grand session which is the state meeting of Job's Daughters International.
Members are currently planning and preparing to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Bethel (1970-2010) with a reception on June 5 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Jackson Masonic Temple. Former members and those that have been a part of these past 40 years are invited to join in the celebration. The installation of officers will be held at 1 p.m. Anyone who has been associated with Bethel 60 and has pictures, scrapbooks, or just wants to share any their memories of Bethel 60 is cordially invited to come.
Charms and tacks commemorating the 40th anniversary will be for sale and can be pre-ordered from Ruth Masterson at r_masterson@sbcglobal.net.<I> There will also be a plaque made for the anniversary as a supporter of Bethel 60 and your name can be placed on it for a donation to the Bethel. All money from the charms and plaque will go to help the girls be able to attend state meetings, hold prospect parties to help obtain new members and for other supplies that are needed.
