The Kage FCE Club was in charge of the arrangements for the Cape Girardeau County FCE All Clubs Day held March 26. The Kage FCE Club decorated the facility for spring, furnished morning refreshments, were in charge of registration and door prizes. Mary Klaproth, FCE County president, called the meeting to order. Verla Mangels, member of Lamplighters FCE Club, led the group in singing the Club Collect. The devotion titled "Easter Blessings" was given by Peggy Barks, member of the Oak Ridge FCE Club. There were a total of 34 FCE members and two guests. In addition Ava Bartow with her mother was present along with Noah Zhang and his father. Bartow placed first in the Essay and Artwork Contest and Zhang placed third in the contest. They each read their essay on Citizenship and had lunch with the group. Both students attend Immaculate Conception Catholic School in Jackson.
Klaproth announced Child Advocacy Day was to be held April 3 in Jefferson City, Missouri. Members brought 47 dolls to the meeting which Judy Strickland and Klaproth along with the other dolls given by FCE members in Missouri presented the dolls to the governor, lieutenant governor and all members of the legislature along with a letter.
The Spring District Meeting will be held on May 3 at the Brazeau Community Building with Perry County hosting the event. Kage and Lamplighters FCE Clubs will furnish centerpieces to later be given away as door prizes. More information will be coming shortly on the meeting.
Marilyn Retherford gave a report on the essay and artwork contest with three schools participating and 31 essays. Concern was expressed with the low number of essays, but it was decided to continue with the contest next year. Barbara Marshall assists Retherford with the contest.
Verla Mangels gave a report for the tour committee. A trip to The Muny is planned for June 28 to see "Singing in the Rain." More details will be available soon.
JoAnn Hahs gave a report on the weighted blanket work day held on Feb. 26. She stated 25 weighted blankets, 17 lap pads and three snakes were made and delivered to schools and the Autism Center in Cape Girardeau. The next work day will June 12.
Shirley Palen agreed to serve on the scholarship committee. JoAnn Hahs is chairperson and Barbara Popp is also on the committee.
The National Day of the Family will be on May 15 and Kara Clark Summers will make arrangements for a proclamation to be signed by the presiding commissioner, Clint Tracy. Margaret Friese and June Peetz are also on the committee.
Judy Strickland introduced the morning speaker, Sgt. Sean Adams. He gave a very informative program on senior scams.
After a potluck lunch, the silent auction concluded with a profit of $168.
Strickland introduced the afternoon speaker, Dr. Mike Cowan, and he showed slides of his recent trip to the Holy Land.
A PowerPoint presentation was enjoyed by the members showing pictures of the various activities of the five clubs.
Twelve door prizes of potted tulips were given to some lucky persons attending the meeting.
The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. on June 7 at the University of Missouri Extension Center in Jackson.
The John Guild Chapter, National Society,​ Daughters of the American Revolution held a luncheon meeting on March 28 at My Daddy's Cheesecake in Cape Girardeau.
The program, "Preserving the History of the Byrd Family" was presented by Rebecca Beil, owner of the Stephen Byrd Home.
The John Guild Chapter presented the Historic Preservation Recognition Award to James and Rebecca Beil for their extrodinary efforts to preserve and restore the the historic Stephan Byrd home.
The DAR Historic Preservation Recognition Award is designed to recognize worthy local individuals and groups for outstanding achievements in all areas of historic preservation.
