American Legion Unit 63 Auxiliary

The American Legion 63 Auxiliary met April 13 with 15 members present. A lunch of sandwiches, chips and dessert was served by Fern Schlimme and Mildred Varvell. Vickie Watling won the 50-50 drawing, Grace Coy won the attendance prize and Catherine Allison won the prize for bringing in the most loose change for the club's emergency fund.

The minutes of the March meeting and treasurer's reports were read and approved.

Barbara Yallaly announced the appointment of Watling as the auxiliary's S.A.L.T. representative. She will keep us informed of future "Seniors and Lawman Together" activities.

Linda Kern announced Poppy Day will be 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on May 13 in front of Walmart Supercenter in Cape Girardeau.

At the May 11 meeting, Yallaly wants to honor Gold Star members Muriel Day and Mildred Varvell.

The district American Legion meeting will be May 15 in Sikeston, Missouri.

Jane Grojean made a motion that we donate $500 to the Amen Center to pay for materials to repair a shed. The motion was approved.

New officers were elected and approved: Linda Kern, president; Barbara Yallaly, vice president; Mildred Varveil, secretary; Donna Hinze, treasurer; Shirley Young, historian; Muriel Day, sergeant at arms and Catherine Allison, chaplain.

Kage FCE Club

Kage FCE met April 14 at the Cape Girardeau Senior Center. The meeting was called to order by president Dortha Strack, whose tip for the month was that good exercise for the heart is to bend down and help someone up. Following the national and state pledges and club collect, the devotion was given by hostess Barbara Marshall

The community project for April was a donation to the Cape Girardeau Senior Center. Other donations in April went to Pennies for Friendship, International 4-H Youth Education and International Peace Gardens.

Information was distributed about applications for the SEMO District Fair scholarship available to college students and about the Cape Girardeau County FCE trip to see "The Music Man" at The Muny on July 11.

Business also included discussion regarding how individuals could express opinions about changing rules for rental of the University of Missouri Extension Center in Jackson.

Members were invited to Inez Statler's 90th birthday celebration to be held June 18 at the Jackson Senior Center.

Sarah Ross presented the program on reverse mortgages. This financial program requires serious study and consideration as well as professional consultation before making a decision to participate.

The next meeting will be May 12.
