The Altenthal-Joerns American Legion met March 8. The minutes of the February meeting were approved.
Larry Koehler, finance, announced that Jackson Homecomers will be July 26 through 30 and that Daryl Gallagher will assume foreman duties for building the stage.
Gerry Keene, membership, reported the post has 478 members which is 92 percent of the goal.
Lou Crites, graves, announced grave site flag placement for Memorial Day weekend will be at 5 p.m. May 27 at City Cemetery and 8 a.m. May 28 at Russell Heights Cemetery. Retrieval of flags at both cemeteries will be on May 31.
Dave Ludwig, Americanism/Boy's State interviews, made a motion to allocate $910 for support of Boy's State. Bill Poe seconded the motion and it passed.
P.M. Kurre, clubroom, introduced the new clubroom manager, Harry Dryer.
Kenny Koehler, youth sports activities, made a motion to fund three teams for $6,600. It was seconded by Ludwig and the motion passed. Jackson will host the district tournament for the junior league starting July 7. The Auxiliary will fund the 8th grade team.
In old business, the 1st Infantry Division Band will play July 30 at Homecomers.
Mike Strack announced a rummage sale will be held in the post parking lot on Memorial Day weekend.
Dick Knaup, Cape Girardeau County EOC director, presented a program on home and individual disaster preparedness.
The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 63 met April 13 at the Post home with 24 members were in attendance. Hostesses for the luncheon were Alice Cordia, Tina Bill, Linda Kern and Patsy Kimbrel.
Catherine Allison gave the opening prayer, followed by the Pledge of Allegience. Deanna Peterman won the 50/50 drawing.
Linda Kern, membership chairman, reported 157 members paid to date, five short of the auxiliary's goal.
Members of the auxiliary and American Legion will be stationed at Walmart and Food Giant, both in Cape Girardeau, on Poppy Day, May 6. Donations recieved will benefit our local veterans.
A letter of gratitude was read from the daughter of Marilyn Ritter, a Coast Guard veteran who served in World War II and recently passed away. Ritter was a dual member of the Legion and the Auxiliary.
The afternoon was spent in playing bingo. Our next meeting will be held May 11, with lunch served at noon and the meeting to begin at 1 p.m.
Tilsit $-H Club met April 7 at Immaculate Conception Church in Jackson with 35 members and 17 others in attendance. Morgan Bangert presided over the meeting. Emma Siever and Bangert led songs and Renee Peters led the pledges.
The following demonstrations were given: Jacob Aufdenberg, "basic tool for woodworking;" Bryan McNeely, "how to make pecan shortbread cookies;" Brent Werner, "how to make maple syrup;" Paige McNeely, "how to make snickerdoodles;" and Joseph Landewee, "building a shed for 1/16 scale toys."
Clover Kids were dismissed for their meeting.
We received $172 in grant money for our weighted blanket project from the William Kemper Foundation.
It was voted to reimburse $20 to club members who go to camp.
Baby items were collected for Heart for Africa, Celebrate Hope Nursery Drive. Teresa Birk presented a program about it at our March meeting.
The Gholson Family provided refreshments.
Steven Peters led a game following the meeting.
Town and Country FCE Club met April 14, at the home of Mary Klaproth who served as hostess. Darlene McCain, president, opened the meeting. Klaproth read the devotion entitled "Isn't it strange?" McCain provided a game "Eye-cue test # 2." Roll call was answered by stating how you exercise.
"Coins for Friendship" were collected. Thank-you notes were read from the Lutheran Home for providing bingo prizes, along with Parkview State School for providing treats for their St. Patrick's Day Party.
Klaproth reported on All Clubs Day held March 28. Town and Country FCE Club received second place for "Club of the Year." Members registered to attend the spring district meeting to be held Tuesday at Sedgewickville. The club is to bring two auction items and one centerpiece for the event. Klaproth gave a report on attending Child Advocacy Day held March 31, in Jefferson City, Mo.
A $25 donation will be given to the Clover Kids 4-H Camp to be held in June and $10 to Relay for Life for a luminary in memory of our departed club members and family members.
Sue Jones will apply for a grant to benefit the purchase of bingo prizes for the Lutheran Home project. Food pantry items were donated to the Jackson Ministerial Alliance food pantry. Books for newborns for Southeast Missouri Hospital were labeled and will be delivered by Lois Seabaugh. Easter treat bags for Cottonwood Residential Treatment Center were delivered. Club project for May will be to bring items to the meeting for Safe House for Women.
The program was given by McCain on "Stay strong-healthy bones" and she was assisted by all members giving a program from Hearth Fire Series #13 on "Woman to woman-bone breaking facts." Club out will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Hickory House Restaurant in Jackson.
Hostess gift was received by Jones. Refreshments were served by the hostess following an Easter theme.
