Xi Nu Phi

The Xi Nu Phi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met April 7 at the offices of Red Letter Communications, with Sandy Ross as hostess. President, Susan Benton, led the meeting with six members present.

The minutes from the last meeting were approved.

It was announced that Kathy Kiefner was the chapter's Valentine queen.

A thank-you note was received from Torchbearer Iota thanking Xi Nu Phi for hosting the Valentine celebration. A thank-you note was also received from Cindy Propst for the yellow rose after the death of her mother.

Information was received for the state convention to be held in Cape Girardeau in October. Further discussion was held on the chapter's responsibility for the convention.

An invitation was received from Preceptor Gamma Omicron, who will be hosting Founders Day April 30 at Kimbeland Country Club.

Ross gave the program on the collection of pull tabs to help support the Ronald McDonald House.

The next meeting will be Tuesday at the home of Cathy Pancoast.

American Legion Auxiliary 63

The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 63 met April 8 with 18 members in attendance. A luncheon was served by Fern Schlimme, Mildred Varvell and Juanita Cook.

The meeting was called to order by Barbara Yallaly, president. Minutes and treasurer's report from the March meeting were read.

Myrna Powers mailed a gift certificate to Cracker Barrel to Hester Gray, Gold Star member. Two other women, Muriel Day and Varvell, qualify to be a Gold Star Mother and Gold Star member. Blue Star banners, to be hung in the windows, were given to members to note that someone in the house is an active military soldier.

Linda Kern, membership chairman, reported that the auxiliary has 132 paid members. She is also poppy chairman and announced that Poppy Days will be May 15 and 16. She has a schedule prepared and will contact those working. The Girl Scouts that the auxiliary sponsor will help with this project. All money donated will be spent on veterans and/or their families.

In the past couple of months, the auxiliary was asked to pay to have a veteran's furnace repaired. The auxiliary did this.

Jane Grojean visited the Amen Center in Delta and was impressed with the facility. A check was sent to the center to help replace the roof.

Town & Country FCE

The Town and Country FCE Club met in the home of Charlene Johnson April 9. Charlene Johnson gave the devotion entitled, "I say a prayer for you each day." Pennies were collected for Coins for Friendship.

Easter treat sacks were delivered April 1 to students at Cottonwood Residential Treatment Center. Plans will be finalized at the May 14 meeting for an end-of-school party in May for the students at Parkview State School.

Mary Klaproth gave a report on attending Child Advocacy Day April 1 in Jefferson City, Missouri. Dolls were delivered to all the legislators that day and workshops were attended. Donna Lichtenegger's secretary gave Cape Girardeau County three boxes of fabric to be used for the weighted blanket project.

It was announced the spring district meeting will be held May 7 hosted by Cape Girardeau County at the University of Missouri Extension Center in Jackson. Reservations are due by May 1. All 10 members of the club signed up to attend the meeting. Darlene McCain will be in charge to obtain a centerpiece for the meeting to later be given as a door prize. Sue Jones will bring some morning refreshments and Lois Seabaugh will bring a dessert for the noon meal.

The program was presented by Alene Hamilton on growing culinary herbs. She brought 13 potted herbs and one potted vegetable to the meeting and gave the members a quiz to see how many they could identify. She later identified all the herbs and the vegetable and explained the different herbs and how to grow and use them. It was a very interesting and informative program.

In addition, Hearth Fire #19, Someone's in the U. S. A ... Prepared for a Natural Disaster was discussed with all members participating.

Club out will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at El Torero in Jackson.

Lois Seabaugh will be hostess for the May 14 meeting. The program will be presented by Joyce King. All members should bring four books for National Day of the Family to be given to the babies and children at Southeast Hospital.
