The Xi Nu Phi chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met March 1 at the home of Cathy Pancoast.
A thank-you note was received from Susan Perdue for the roses the chapter sent her. Pancoast announced that membership pins and certificates have arrived for the new members.
Members read an article from the "Book of Beta Sigma Phi." Pancoast presented the program on osteoporosis.
March 29 will be a "girls' night out" to dinner and a movie.
The next meeting will be Tuesday at the home of Sheryl Smith. The meeting will include election of officers and membership rituals.
The New Salem United Methodist Women of Daisy met at the home of Shirley Grebe on March 2. President Dorothy Hahs presided over the meeting. The program "Let Your Light Shine" for the World Day of Prayer was presented by Barbara Brown.
Thirteen shut-in/sick calls were made during February. The spring district meeting will be April 9 in Charleston, Mo. The nursing home visitation committee for February reported on their visit. A discussion was held on what to do quarterly for the UMW's adopted elderly person. First-quarter pledges will be given to a family who has a loved on undergoing medical treatment.
A thank-you note was signed to be given to Goldie Hobeck for her help with pies at the Vigortone Dinner.
Hahs presented literature on making "comfort quilts" for families who have lost loved ones in the military. Brown will check for more information on this.
The Easter breakfast was discussed, and refreshments were served.
The next meeting will be April 6 at the home of Roberta Seabaugh. Everyone is to bring a package of spring bulbs to exchange.
Nineteen members representing six local FCE clubs met March 3 to learn that the Leaders Training meeting will be held April 11 at the local extension center. Subjects to be taught will be house plants, No Child Left Behind, "Something Just For Me" and "Family Roots."
Tune Out Violence pledge day will be March 19. Pledges to avoid watching violent TV shows on April 5 will be taken at Wal-Mart in Cape Girardeau by Kage and Town and Country clubs, and Jackson Wal-Mart by Oak Ridge and Lamplighters. Wonderworkers and Cheerful Country Doers will take the pledges at the Jackson Save-a-Lot Store. Carole Jo Byrd of the Oak Ridge Club will be totaling, recording and reporting on the pledges received in the Cape Girardeau and Jackson areas.
Kage Club reported having won a $500 Heed Grant for work with Diabetic Children and Mary Goshe, Human Development Specialist, also won a $500 Heed Grant to be used with her work with "Grandparents Raising Grandchildren."
Mary Klaproth, of the Town and Country Club, gave dates and trips to be sponsored by the FCE organization: Muny Opera, Aug. 9, Sound of Music; tentatively, Oct. 14 and 15, Rockville, Ind., covered bridge capital of the world; Nov. 11 to 13 ,Branson; Dec. 10, Bellevue Baptist Church, Memphis, Singing Christmas Tree.
Missouri Foundation Grant applications were distributed to clubs wishing to apply for 2005-2006 grants. Deadline for making applications will be July 1 and awards will be released at the Missouri FCE Conference in Columbia on Aug. 25. Cape Girardeau County members are being asked to make favors for a banquet table at the meeting. Contact Nelda Crader, county president, for more information.
The District FCE Meeting will be in Bollinger County on April 19. Particular meeting place will be announced at the Cape Girar-deau County All Clubs Day, March 28, at the Jackson Extension Center.
The Lamplighters FCE met at the home of Verla Mangels on Feb. 19. Husbands of members were the invited guests for a special Valentine's dinner and game night. A devotional from the book "Chicken Soup for the Romantic Soul" was given by the hostess.
After dinner a short business meeting was held.
An FCE event will be held March 19 at selected businesses. Members will collect signatures on petitions titled "Tune Out Violence on TV."
President JoAnn Hahs reported on upcoming events: County council meeting on March 3 and leadership training on April 11. The All-Clubs Day meeting will be on March 28, and Lamplighters members will bring a potato dish to the potluck lunch.
Bev Meyers displayed a pictoral history and commentary of the club's 2004 events, which she compiled.
Food articles brought to the meeting will be given to the New Salem Church food pantry in Daisy, Mo.
The next meeting will be held at the home of Jackie Kurre on March 17.
