The Torchbearer Iota Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met at the home of Patty Taylor. Fifteen members were present. Dixie Jones and Carole Rhodes were unable to attend. President Joyce Hays presided.
The Swaparoo Gift was brought by Vicki McKinney and won by Marsha Parrish.
Thank-you notes were received from Kristie Gardner and Dixie Jones.
The service committee collected items for the Amen Center. Paper products will be purchased to be added to the collected items.
A report was given on the all-chapter Valentine brunch held at Dalhousie Golf Club on Feb. 13, followed by a report on the chapter Valentine party/ritual evening that was held at the RV Center on Feb. 16. Patty Taylor was crowned the chapter Valentine queen and three rituals were held. Carole Rhodes received the Ritual of Jewels Degree; Dixie Jones and Martha Slaten the Preceptor Degree; and Gwen Nussbaum the Torchbearer Degree. A secret pal gift exchange followed.
Mary Schwab, corresponding secretary, reported she had sent four cards, purchased four roses and presented four piggy banks in the past two months.
Bobbie Woodard announced a lunch trip on March 13 to the Blue Boar in Anna, Illinois. The group will meet at Garber's at 12:30 p.m.
Marsha Parrish read from the Book of Beta Sigma Phi concerning qualifications for the master's degree.
Programs were presented by Mary Schwab and Patty Taylor.
Schwab's program was on winter birds and backyard birding. She closed her program by reading a clip from a year 2000 issue of the Beta Sigma Phi Torch, "Would I Change Anything About My Life."
Taylor spoke about the journey and problems that arose while taking care of her mother for 7 1/2 years who was a victim of Alzheimer's disease. Her mother now resides in a care center in St. Louis. She also talked about the 10 warning signs of Alzheimer's. Copies of the warning signs will be available at the next meeting.
The next meeting will be held at the home of Margaret Little on March 14.
The Lamplighter FCE Club met Feb. 25 at Delmonico's in Jackson. President JoAnn Hahs gave the devotion. Minutes were read and the treasurer's report was given.
Members were asked to sign up for the training session, small steps to health and wealth. Members voted on and accepted the club's bylaws as written.
Club books were passed out. Members are to review the books, and revisions will be made at the March meeting. Members voted on and accepted a motion for the club to provide a basket filled with different items for the Oak Ridge School Benefit Auction. A committee was formed to gather items for the basket. Also, members should bring items to add to the basket to the March meeting.
Mississippi Valley Therapeutic Horsemanship asked if the club would provide wrapped sweets and work the concession stand on May 7. Members voted to provide dessert items and work the stand.
The Tiger Sanctuary asked if the club would once again host old meat pickup the first weekend in June. Members voted and seconded to hosting this and Verla Mangels will once again be in charge -- she did such a wonderful job hosting last year.
Members were asked to bring dolls for Child Advocacy to the March meeting. These dolls are to be passed out to the state representatives. The dolls should be very plain.
Club sew day will be at 9:30 a.m. on April 12 at the First Baptist Church of Oak Ridge. Plans are to sew lap quits to be given to the women's shelter.
Members discussed donating items for the garage sale at the Osage Centre on Aug. 13. Proceeds will be donated to Relay for Life.
The following announcements were made: Weighted items sew day will be held at the Extension Center at 9 a.m. March 8; March 28 is All Clubs Day at the Extension Center, with registration beginning at 9:30 a.m.; leader training meeting is set for April 4 at 9:30 a.m.; Child Advocacy Day in Jefferson City, Missouri, is April 6 and April 21, with registration beginning at 9:30 a.m. is the District Meeting in Doniphan, Missouri, at the Assembly of God Church.
Program for the club was attending the musical, "On the Town," at the Southeast Missouri State University River Campus.
The meeting was adjourned. After the meal, members left for the River Campus.
Sharon Bogenpohl will be the hostess for the March 17 meeting at 7 p.m. at her home in Oak Ridge.
