Nancy Hunter Chapter NSDAR

The Nancy Hunter Chapter NSDAR met Feb. 23 at the Cape Girardeau Public Library in the Geraldine Hirsch Community Room for their Good Citizens Awards Presentations. Regent Sheila Holloway welcomed the students participating in the essays, their parents and some principals of their school. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Catherine Allison, secretary. "The American's Creed" was led by Dorothy Points, chaplain, and the group sang the national anthem.

Holloway introduced the Good Citizens participants and their guests. Co-chairmen of the Presentation of Essays were Edna Ruth Fischer and Charlotte Slinkard. Each year the DAR recognizes outstanding seniors who have demonstrated the qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism. Recipients of the award were Hillary Elise Caldwell from Central High School, daughter of John and Mary Caldwell; Randi Renae Wiley from Chaffee High School, daughter of Gregory and Therena Wiley; and Breanna Sue McClellan from Oak Ridge High School, daughter of Douglas ad Tammy McClellan.

Certificates, pins and gifts were given by the co-chairmen. Reception and refreshments were served.

The chapter's next meeting will be at 6 p.m. March 23 in the Geraldine Hirsch Community room with the celebration of the 110th Nancy Hunter Chapter anniversary. Members should bring dishes made using historic recipes for the buffet dinner.
