American Legion Unit 63 Auxiliary

American Legion Unit 63 Auxiliary met Feb. 8 with 14 members present.

The meeting opened with a prayer by chaplain Catherine Allison.

Treasurer Donna Hinze gave her report, which was approved.

Vickie Watling reported on the recent S.A.L.T. meeting. She announced the Memorial Day Service for fallen officers will be May 25 at Cape Bible Chapel.

Members worked on the quilts from 9 a.m. to noon on Feb. 17.

Members agreed to have a "No Bake" bake sale. Linda Kern will send letters to all members with details.

The Super Bowl party held at the Missouri Veterans' Home was a huge success. There were 51 attendees.

Members of American Legion Post 63 are asking for help with Veterans Home bingo.

Alice Cordia is taking orders for Girl Scout cookies from the troop that the auxiliary sponsors.

Kern announced Poppy Day will be May 20.

There were 33 auxiliary ladies in attendance at the district meeting held in Cape Girardeau on Feb. 12.

The next meeting will be at 1 p.m. March 8. All are invited to bring a sack lunch at noon to socialize.

John Guild Chapter NSDAR

The John Guild Chapter met Feb. 15 for a luncheon meeting at the Oliver House in Jackson. Hostesses were Bonnie Macke, Pam Johnson and Beth Biri.

The program, Service to America, was given by Susan Hahs. She has been involved with volunteering all over the U.S. and in other countries as she and her husband traveled for his work. She told of many ways we can help our city, county, state and nation as volunteers. At the end of her presentation, she was surprised to receive the community service award certificate and pin presented by Morgan Lake, community service chairman.

On March 10, the Missouri State Society, Daughters of the American Revolution will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the DAR marking of the EL Camino Real by traveling from Kimswick, Missouri, to Caruthersville, Missouri, stopping at every marker. The John Guild Chapter will be sponsoring the marker in Scott City. "EL Camino Real" also means The Royal Road or King's Highway.

The next chapter meeting will be March 15 at the Cape Girardeau Country Club, where we will join the Nancy Hunter Chapter as we welcome State Regent Susan Bowman for her official visit.
