Cape Girardeau County FCE

The Cape Girardeau County FCE All Clubs Day was held March 22, with 41 members and five guests representing seven clubs.

Membership recognitions were presented: For 10 years, Marjorie McAnally and Norma Schrieber of Town & Country FCE Club; for 25 years, Esther Nobus of Cheerful Country Doers FCE Club; for 30 years, June Lungwitz, Mary Dell Clingingsmith and Agnes Wachter of Cheerful Country Doers FCE Club, Neva Jackson of Kage FCE Club and Jane Boren of Progressive FCE Club; for 35 years, Joan Meyer of Kage FCE Club; for 40 years, Joann Hahs of Lamplighters FCE Club and Ellen Lorberg of Progressive FCE Club; and for 45 years, Barbara Popp of Oak Ridge FCE Club. The Cape Girardeau County Club of the Year award was presented to Town & Country FCE Club for its successful work with Family, Community and Education. Second place went to Kage FCE ,and third place went to Oak Ridge FCE.

Ryan Hale, a fourth-grade student at Nell Holcomb School, presented his first-place winning essay, "Trustworthiness." He placed second for his essay at the Southeast Missouri District level. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Hale.

Janet Smith of APPLE, a senior adult outreach program of the Human Environmental Studies Department, College of Health and Human Services, Southeast Missouri State University, presented an informative program. It consisted of information on Medicare, insurance claims, personal papers and legal matters. APPLE is a free comprehensive paperwork service for senior adults age 60 years or older residing in Cape Girardeau, Scott, Perry and Bollinger counties.

Lacy Hayes, a student at Jackson High School, presented the afternoon's musical entertainment.

The devotion, "Count Your Blessings," was given in honor of Dolores Meyer, who is a member of the Progressive FCE Club.

Refreshments were served by Wonderworkers FCE Club.

The Tune Out Violence campaign continues to be a success. Club members will solicit pledges of persons who will make a conscious effort to have people avoid watching or listening to violent TV, music, video games or radio programming, especially on April 5.

Nelda Crader, county president, concluded the meeting by reminding members of the Spring District Family, Community and Education meeting to be held at Doniphan, Mo., on May 4.

Arnsberg 4-H Club

The Arnsberg 4-H Club met March 4 at Friedheim Trinity Lutheran Hall. Jessica Seyer, president, presided with 31 members, nine leaders and 15 others in attendance.

Kyle Rohde and Jacob Light were song leaders. Hunter Seyer led the group in pledges.

Seven members with February and March birthdays were recognized with a special song.

Shelby Proctor and Emily Ruch gave a report on a horse meeting held in January. Tyler Lappe, Amanda Lappe and Proctor gave a report on a sheep meeting held on March 2. Dustin Oehl gave a report on a computer meeting held in February.

The program following the meeting was the annual box supper. Forty-three meals were auctioned off by auctioneer Chester Seyer.

The next meeting will be Thursday.

Capaha Scottish Rite Women's Club

The March meeting of the Capaha Scottish Rite Women's Club was held at Delmonico's Restaurant in Jackson. Cynthia Alfaro, vice president, presided, and Laura Corse voiced the table prayer. Hostess was Violet Reynolds. Vesta Mae Meyer was program chairman. She read "Funny Sayings" and "Kids' Prayers."

Hostess gifts were won by Doris Hurst and Beth Alfaro.

The April meeting will be held at Delmonico's Restaurant. Hostess will be Ceil Law, and program chairman will be Hurst. Bingo will be played during the social period.

County Seat Investment Club

The March meeting of the County Seat Investment Club was held at Edward Jones office in Jackson on March 8. Women interested in learning about stock market investing are welcome.

The next meeting will be at Dexter Bar-B-Q in Cape Girardeau at 6:30 p.m. on April 12. For more information call 335-5781 or 335-1825 and leave a message.

Nancy Hunter Chapter NSDAR

The Nancy Hunter Chapter NSDAR met March 24 at the Cape Girardeau Public Library with honorary chapter regent Dorothy Points opening the meeting. Jeannine McGinnis gave the National Defense report, and Ruth Lang gave the treasurer's report. Hostesses were Lois Spalding and Mary Lou Lett.

It was announced that another veteran of the Revolutionary War, William C. Sieford, is buried in the Cape Giraradeau area. The group was asked to be searching for information to find where his grave is located so he can be honored.

The Rotary Club has invited the Wednesday Club to its next meeting to honor this disbanded group.

Nancy Wilson gave the program with a movie of the "Battle of King's Mountain."

The next meeting will be held on April 28 at the library.

Oak Ridge After-School 4-H

The Oak Ridge After-School 4-H Club met March 24 in the Oak Ridge Elementary School library with 23 members, four guests and three leaders present. Rebekah Shrum presided over the meeting.

Songs were led by Jordyn Aden, Shelby Ray and Nathan Shrum. Pledges were led by Lori Moore and Clay Maintz.

A celebration party was held after hosting the Global Village. Project reports were given on computer and scrapbook. Future plans include scrapbooking with Mrs. Mangels.
