Verna Downen was hostess when the Kage FCE met at the Cape Girardeau Senior Center for their regular monthly meeting.
President Dortha Strack presided. Tip of the day: Carrots are a good nutritional snack.
Judie Herbst reported that the club cookbook is being compiled. Inez Statler compiled the history of the Kage Club that will be included in the cookbook. This year begins the clubs 69th year.
A thank-you note was received from Teen Challenge International of Mid-American for the club's donation last month.
The service project for March will be FISH.
A report was given by members participating in the reading program at Jefferson Elementary School and the Crystal Club at the Lutheran Home.
Members were reminded of the leader training session on March 18 at the University of Missouri Extension Center in Jackson. The lessons will be on Autism, new health plan, foods from foreign countries and the dangers of vitamins and supplements.
Plans were made to host the annual "All Clubs Day" on March 25 that will be held at the Extension Center in Jackson. Kage Club will provide the meat and those attending will bring a dish.
Before the meeting, the program was presented by Maria Reardon and Jackie Cole representing SEMO Alliance for Disability Independence. The subject of the program was the deaf interpreter services provided by SADI. A guest for the program was Lorene Palisch.
Linda Farrow will be hostess for the next meeting on March 14.
Nelda Crader, the newly-elected president of Oak Ridge FCE, opened the Feb. 19 meeting with pledges to our flags and singing "God Bless America." She noted the January meeting was cancelled because of several members sick. Crader passed out 2013 program booklets to all members. Her daughter Brandy, made the booklets, the club voted to pay Brandy for all material and postage she incurred.
Mariesa Lesch had the devotion on attitude.
There were 11 members present.
Barbara Barks, secretary, read the minutes from December 2012 and Pat Hecht, treasurer, gave her report; both were read and approved.
Crader reported several changes on the FCE Missouri State reporting booklets. The quarterly Council meeting will be 7 p.m. Thursday at the University of Missouri Extension Center in Jackson with Town and Country in charge of devotional. Leadership training will be held on March 18 at the Extension Center with programs: new health plan by Anne Silea, MSW from Lutheran Family and Children's Services; food from foreign countries by Judy Lueders, nutrition specialist, University of Missouri Extension; Autism by Mary Gosche, human development specialist, University of Missouri Extension; and dangers of vitamins and Supplements by Lueders. All FCE Club's Day will be March 25 at the Extension Center with Kage FCE as hostess and Cheerful Country Doers in charge of devotion. Those clubs that participate in making Dolls for Child Advocacy Day are encouraged to bring them to All Club's Day.
Sewing day for Autism blankets will be at 9 a.m. April 9 at the lower level of Jackson Extension Center. All club members are encouraged to attend with this community project.
Crader read a thank-you card from Betty Dellinger who is recovering from back surgery. Crader reported all county reports are due March 15.
The program was on Aphasia by Lesch. Aphasia is an impairment of language ability and can be caused by a stroke or severe injury to the head, infections or a degenerative process.
Giving items to the local food pantry was the project of the month. Items needed are paper products, canned tuna fish, pasta of all kinds, peanut butter, sugar, flour and most of non-perishable items.
The Coins for Friendship and Flower Fund was collected. It was decided to take half of Flower Fund and put into club's treasury. Bingo for Veterans was cancelled for Feb. 25 due to sickness at the Missouri Veterans Home.
