The Founder's Day event was reviewed. The consensus was that it was a nice event but the proceeds from the silent auction ($677.66 plus $148.29 in donations for a total of $825.95) are somewhat disappointing. A Founder's Day event each year is a Foundation Column's Requirement. The Founder's Day event will be continued, but there may be some changes to the silent auction/fundraising aspect. Simon said he would prefer to make a monetary donation rather than donating auction items.
The planned June 16 student picnic was discussed. Students need to be contacted about the picnic in the near future. Members discussed possibly sending postcard invitations to the parents of the students rather than to the students to ensure that the parents know about the event and encourage students to attend and plan to attend themselves. The picnic checklist was reviewed and members volunteered for various responsibility areas on the list. Frasher presently has 25 shirts for the gift bags and some gift cards left over from last year. Frasher will check on the number and denomination of the gift cards he has. Additional gift cards will be purchased as required.
Frasher talked about the rescheduled networking event. The first phase of the event, covering resumes and job interviews, will be from 9 a.m. to noon March 29 at the MU Extension Center. Both University of Missouri and Southeast Missouri State University graduates and those planning to graduate in 2011 will be contacted directly through the Alumni Associations and a press release will be sent to all Chapter area media. Any college graduate with at least an associate degree is welcome and encouraged to attend the event.
Frasher reported that the chapter has not heard anything from the MAA regarding the Diversity Grant application.
Hagans reported that 28 applications were received from high school students regarding our $4,000 MAA scholarship.
Simon reported that he mailed the nomination form and all supporting information and reference letters for the Tiger Pride Award to the MAA on Feb. 28. John Lichtenegger has been nominated for the award.
There are only two new members for the fiscal year and the Foundation Column's Requirement under Responsibility requires that we have five.
