Club news 3/19/03

Nancy Hunter NSDAR

The Nancy Hunter Chapter of NSDAR met Feb. 28 in the Hirsch Room at Cape Girardeau Public Library with 34 members present. Katherine Tolson, chapter regent, opened the meeting with the rituals.

There was no business session and the Good Citizens Award Chairman, Patsy Robert, introduced the winners of the Good Citizens Awards. The students were all A students and on the honor roll. The essay title they were to write about was "Our American Heritage and Our Responsibility for Preserving It."

The winners were:

Rebecca Cook of Delta High. She is the daughter of Ken and Diane Cook.

Cory Scott Beussink of Notre Dame Regional High School. He is the son of Mark and Geralyn Beussink of Jackson.

Katherine Mary Maginel of Cape Central High School. She is the daughter of Jim and Mary Maginel.

Laura Glueck of Oak Ridge High School. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Glueck.

After each winner read their essay, a parent was asked to come forward to present and pin the award pin on their student.

Catherine Allison and Tolson served as co-hostesses.

The next meeting will be March 26, at the home of Nancy Wilson. Dorothy Points will presented "Lewis & Clark Expedition 1803 Voyage" as the program.

Alpha Mu Master

Alpha Mu Master of Beta Sigma Phi met at the home of Margaret Little on March 10.

Vice president Joyce Hays conducted the pledge training for Bernie Gardner prior to the regular business meeting.

During the business meeting, members were reminded that a vote for woman of the year and election of officers will be held at the next meeting.

Vicki McKinney won the swaparoo drawing. Secret sister gifts were exchanged.

Little gave a program on The Book Rack.

Carole Calvin will be host of the next meeting Monday at 6:30 p.m.

A Couch Potato Party was held at the home of Bernie Gardner on March 16.

Post 3838 Ladies Auxiliary

The Ladies Auxillary meeting was held March 13, at Post 3838, with Debbie Griffin presiding.

Buddy Poppy sales will be May 30 and 31. Please sign up at the Post to help sell poppies.

Volunteers are needed for bingo at the Missouri Veterans Home Saturday.

Ladies Auxillary 90th National Convention will be held in San Antonio, Texas, Aug. 23 to 29.

Donations were made to Operation Uplink and MDA Diamond Bowling Marathon.

Donations for Pennies From Heaven Basket will need to be brought to the April meeting, or no later than May 8. Pennies From Heaven Auction will be May 16 at the A.C. Brase Arena Building

Next Steak Nite will be April 5.

Ladies Auxiliary National President Betty Morris will be in St Louis on April 5.

The next meeting of the Ladies Auxiliary will be April 10, at Post 3838.

There will be a meeting at 6 p.m. Monday for committee chairmen for year-end reports at Post 3838.

Town & Country FCE

Town & Country FCE Club met on March 13, at the home of Darlene McCain.

Linda Thompson, president, called the meeting to order. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited and the Club Collect was read.

Thompson gave a program on volunteerism, stressing the money benefits.

McCain read "May We All Have Positive Thoughts" for devotion.

Plans were finalized for all Clubs Day to be Monday at the Extension Center in Jackson. Town & Country will be the host.

Mary Klaproth gave a report on the County Council meeting and the trip committee.

Members from Cape County FCE Clubs will be obtaining signatures on "Tune Out Violence" sheets on Saturday at different locations in Cape Girardeau and Jackson. This is an effort to clean up television.

Thirteen dolls were sent to Jefferson City from Cape Girardeau County for "Child Advocacy Day."

Thompson compiled the club's county international report. She also gave a second program on "Homeland Security" and handed out literature.

Club Out will be at 6:30 p.m. March 27 at Red Lobster.

Margie McAnally gave each member a copy of "Food and Restaurant Guide 2002-03."

The next meeting will be in the home of Norma Schrieber at 7 p.m. on April 10. She will have the program on soap making. Each member will bring toiletries for the Lutheran Home to this meeting.

Friendship Club

The Friendship Club's March 11 meeting was held at the home of Ruby Bock.

Alma Bodenstein gave the devotion.

A monetary gift will be given to the Cancer Society and Multiple Sclerosis Association.

Sarah Beggs and Angela Nancock from Pioneer Market gave an informative talk on the care of flowers and shrubs.

The next meeting will be April 8 at the home of Bodenstein.

Kage FCE

The Kage FCE Club held its March 13 meeting at the University of Missouri Outreach and Extension Center in Jackson. Joan Meyer conducted a lesson on quilting and everyone present sewed blocks together in preparation for quilting and completing a pillow.

In the business session, arrangements were made for some members to go to a local store Friday to get pledges from shoppers to "Tune Out Violence" on TV on April 5. Signatures will be sent and efforts will be made to influence Congress and television networks to reduce violence on TV.

Meyer read a letter she received from a serviceman in response to a Christmas greeting she had sent.

Reservations were made by those planning to attend All Clubs Day on Monday. The Spring District FCE meeting will be held May 2 at First United Methodist Church in Poplar Bluff. Reservations are due by April 18.

The next club meeting will be held at the Cape Girardeau Senior Center on April 10 with Opal Collins as hostess.

Quest Club

The Quest Club, GFWC, met March 12, at the home of Dorothy Miles. Stan Johnson of the Missouri Department of Transportation gave the program on the Bill Emerson Memorial Bridge.

A report on the selection of students for the Sophomore Pilgrimage was made by Carol Blue. The pilgrimage will be April 8.

President Grace Hoover announced the 9th District Spring Convention will be held on April 5 at Ste. Genevieve, Mo., and the 107th Annual Workshop Convention will be held May 2 and 3 at Holiday Inn in Lake Ozark, Mo.

The next meeting will be on April 9, at the home of Lillian Stahly.

Scottish Rite

Scottish Rite Men's Club met March 12. A potluck dinner was held.

Harold Coarse, president, opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance. Birthdays and anniversaries were recognized.

The speaker was Ron Clark, master mason. He spoke on the Shriners Children's Hospital and all the wonderful work it has done. He announced the Cape Girardeau Shriners had raised $23,200 to donate to this very worthwhile project last year.

Charles Huey and Johnny Schlenker were guests.

The next meeting will be on April 9.

Exchange Club

The Exchange Club of Cape Girardeau met March 4 at Port Cape Girardeau. Vernon Auer presented the program.

Merrill Simmons is working on the Giveakidaflagtowave program. The club wishes Monty Kyle a quick recovery after being in the hospital.

The next meeting will be the Youth of the Month meeting on April 1.
