The Town & Country FCE club met March 18 at the home of Sue Jones for the annual international dinner. The country being studied this year is Afghanistan. The speaker was tentatively rescheduled for the May meeting.
Jones, secretary, gave the devotion and took roll call, answered with "A fact about Afghanistan." January and February minutes were read by Jones and approved. Donna Woolsey gave the treasurer's report. It was approved.
Mary Klaproth reported that a St. Patrick's Day party at Parkview School on March 17 was a success. Jones was instructed to send a thank-you note to Prairie Farms for donating ice cream cups. Also, bingo prizes were taken to The Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau on March 17.
The following announcements were made by the president. Leader training will be held tomorrow at the University of Missouri Extension Center, with registration beginning at 9:15 a.m. Child Advocacy Day will be April 6 in Jefferson City, Missouri. Klaproth will drive and will leave Jackson at 6 a.m. A volunteer luncheon will be held at 11:30 a.m. April 11 at The Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
The next meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. April 13 at Karen Murphy's home.
The Lamplighter FCE Club met March 17 at Sharon Bogenpohl's home in Oak Ridge. Members stated the club collect and Bogenpohl gave the devotion, "Be Encouraged." She also read from "Laugh of the Day Book." Members answered roll call by telling an Irish fact or legend. The treasurer gave her report.
President JoAnn Hahs reminded everyone of the following: gather items for the Oak Ridge School Benefit Auction; purchase dolls for Child Advocacy Day; and sew day will be April 12 at the First Baptist Church of Oak Ridge. Hahs announced that as of April 5, no insurance will be offered through FCE.
Judy Strickland gave the program on allergies and intolerance.
Members should bring items for fairy gardens in a brown paper bag to the April meeting at 1 p.m. April 28 at Margaret Friese's home in Daisy.
The Torchbearer Iota Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met at the home of Carole Rhodes. President Joyce Hays presided.
An invitation for Founders Day and the report form from international of new chapter officers were received.
Founders Day will be held April 28 at New McKendree Church in Jackson, hosted by Epsilon Epsilon. The RSVP date is April 18.
Carole Calvin distributed the revised all-chapter event schedule.
The next council meeting will be held May 4. New council officers will be elected.
The Swaparoo Gift was brought by Bobbie Woodard and won by Marilyn Schwab.
A vote was taken for the chapter "Woman of the Year," followed by the election of officers for next year.
Martha Slaten, president; Margaret Little, vice president; Charlotte Bess, corresponding secretary; Linda Belote, recording secretary; Carole Calvin, treasurer; and Martha Slaten and Hays, city council representatives, with Judie Herbst as alternate.
The next meeting will be April 11 at Belote's home.
The program for the evening, "Wisdom," and a poem, "I've Had A Wonderful Life," were presented by Rhodes.
The John Guild Chapter, National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution met March 16 at the Trail of Tears Visitor Center. Following the meeting, Denise Dowling presented a video about the Indian Removal.
The MSSDAR State Conference will be April 14 to 17 at the Embassy Suites, St. Charles Convention Center, St. Charles, Missouri.
Hostesses were Jan Chamberlain and Jerre Crites.
The next meeting will be at 1 p.m. at the Cape Girardeau County History Center in Jackson. Members will take a tour and hear a report on the Missouri State Conference. The executive board will host the event.
