Oak Ridge FCE

Carole Jo Byrd was the host of the January meeting of the Oak Ridge FCE Club. President Marilyn Retherford presided over the meeting. Kim Bagley joined the club.

Jackie Rutherford gave the devotion entitled, "The Power of Love." Eleven members were present.

It was announced that the club had placed "The American Premiere" at Riverside Regional Library in Jackson. Leader training will be held March 31. Volunteer hours were taken. A donation of $82 was collected for the Jackson Food Pantry to purchase paper products, soap and diapers.

Betty Dillinger, Billy Criddle, Nelda Crader and Byrd will serve as volunteers at Jackson Manor's February birthday party.

Two videos on quilting were shown by Byrd. She also gave a demonstration on piecing a quilt block and using a cutting board, ruler and cutting wheel.

Alpha Mu Master of BSP

The Alpha Mu Master chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met at the home of Linda Metheny on Jan. 27. Mary Schwab served as co-hostess.

President Carole Calvin reported on a variety of BSP funds that are available through the international office. Bobbie Woodard, social committee chairperson, announced that the chapter would hold a progressive dinner on March 16, beginning at 4 p.m. Members were also reminded of the annual all-chapter Valentine party on Feb. 12, beginning at 6 p.m., at the Family Life Center of Centenary United Methodist Church.

Joyce Hays presided over the pledge training session for Bernie Gardner.

Marilyn Schwab introduced Sarah Shepard, camping and service director for the local Girls Scouts of America, who presented a program on Switzerland. Shepard, who has 20 years of experience with Girl Scouts, was a counselor to five other Girl Scouts from various places who were on a nationwide hiking trip to Switzerland.

The chapter also met Monday at the Buckner-Brew Restaurant for a meal and Valentine gift exchange.

Schwab will be host for the next meeting Feb. 24, beginning at 7 p.m.

Exchange Club

The Exchange Club of Cape Girardeau met Jan. 21 at Port Cape Girardeau. John King presented a program about his gardening skills and visit to Shaw's Garden in St. Louis.

The next Youth of the Month program will be Feb. 18. The March 3 meeting will be the "One Nation Under God" program presented by Vernon Auer. Spouses are invited to attend both of these meetings.

Progressive Club

The Progressive Club met Jan. 28, at the home of Shirley Cracraft. Ten members were present.

Doloris Meyr gave the devotion on "Time to Pray," and also gave a minilesson on emergency preparedness.

Barbara Lorberg discussed her travel experiences in Tasmania, sharing maps and photos. Programs for the coming year were discussed.

The next meeting will be Feb. 25, with Dorothy Pensel as host.
