The Xi Nu Phi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met Feb. 15 at the home of Mary Stuart. Pledge training was completed for Sharon Hinkebein and Stuart.
A thank-you note was received for the donation the chapter made to the 2005 Missouri state service project.
The Valentine banquet was held Feb. 10 and the chapter voted Sheryl Smith to be the Valentine queen. It was also announced that Sandy Ross, last year's Valentine queen, is on the International Royal Court as announced in the magazine The Torch.
The scrapbook committee will meet Friday at the home of Debbie Balsano to begin working on this year's scrapbook.
Ross distributed updated contact cards for the chapter and Valentine secret pal gifts were distributed. Stuart presented the program on the Iditarod trail dog sled race.
The next meeting will be Monday at the home of Cathy Pancoast.
The Church Women United met at First Presbyterian Church in Jackson on Feb. 7 for a Bible study and business meeting. Mary Thomas led the Bible study. Michele Moon, president, presided over the business meeting. The minutes were read, and the treasurer's report was given.
Joyce King was thanked for her dedication for the past three years as being president of the local CWU group.
Meta Siemers reminded the group of the blood drive to be held March 21, 23 and 25 at the Red Cross facility on South Mount Auburn Road in Cape Girardeau.
The committee working on the State CWU Assembly in March 2006 will meet on March 31 to do further planning. Help will be needed for the assembly in Jefferson City. The theme will be "We are the Tapestry."
World Day of Prayer will be held on March 4 at 7 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Cape Girardeau, at 12:30 p.m. at St. Vincent's Catholic Church in Perryville, Mo., and at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Jackson.
Dolly Jewell reported on Church World Service projects. She reported that 5,940 health kits and money generated from the quilt auction at the Festival of Sharing in October in Sedalia, Mo., was sent to the tsunami-ravaged areas of Indonesia totaled $146,474. Many of these items were also received at the Mini Festival of Sharing held in Dexter in early October.
Pat Bolen will write notes to the women who are members of the Cape Girardeau and Jackson city councils for our Adopt-a-Leader program.
The April 1 Bible study and business meeting will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Perryville. Helen Ueleke will have the Bible study. The group will meet at 8:15 a.m. at the Osage Community Centre and carpool to Perryville.
The Shuffle and Deal Bridge group held its third annual banquet in the Marquette Hotel lobby on Feb. 16.
Awards were given to the following teams in last year's competition: first place, Midge Ridings and Kitty Rueseler; second place, Joan Morgan and Linda Lummus; third place, Bev Wink and Mary VanCleve; and fourth place, Gail Kunz and Mary Jane Eftink.
Following the dinner there was an evening of bridge. The annual donation to the Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance was made by members for this benefit.
The Laureate Alpha Rho Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met at the home of Bonnie Hennessy on Feb. 3. A thank-you note was received from Dorothy Miles, whose husband recently died.
Forms were passed out from the International for those who wanted to send in recipes for the new Beta Sigma Phi recipe book.
Hennessy read the minutes from the last city council meeting and Rosanna Whitnel gave a report on the 2005 convention meeting held Jan. 17. Loretta Atkins read a letter from former member Bonnie Perdue.
It was announced that the election of officers will be held at the first meeting in April. Edna Hey gave a program on the history of coffee.
Valentine cards were exchanged between secret pals. Laverna Baker was crowned Laureate Apha Rho Valentine queen. The next meeting will be on March 3 at the home of Hey.
