New McKendree United Methodist Women met in the church fellowship hall Tuesday with 23 members and two guests present.
The meeting was called to order by Mary Klaproth, president, after which the group recited the UMW Purpose. The minutes of the last meeting were read by Pam Buck, secretary, and approved as read. Marilyn Fronabarger gave the treasurer's report.
Chairperson reports
Program resources: Tina Crites reported the UMW bookcase has been moved to the classroom across from the fellowship hall. The books have a new labeling system and more children's books have been added.
Social action: Klaproth reminded members that circles would collect for call to prayer and self-denial in February and the food pantry in March.
Education and Interpretation: Shirley Patterson announced the classes to be offered this year at Mission U.
Membership: Inez Statler visited the Lutheran Home, Anna Wannamaker took communion to those on her list and Tandy Wendel visited Jackson Manor.
Bereavement: Elwanda Corbin reported they served three meals.
Esther Circle won the attendance ribbon and a first-time attendance ribbon was given to Myra Sanders.
The next church fish fry will be Saturday and the UMW will hold a bake sale at the same time. Representatives from each circle will help set up and price items.
UMW weekend will be May 3 and 4 with Kim Mitchell serving as the speaker. Money may be given to burn the Mission Candle in honor or memory of loved ones.
It was decided to hold a spring tea April 13 at 2:30 p.m. at South Campus.
Julie Combs reported the 100-mile-yard sale will be held in uptown Jackson May 22 to 24.
Church Women United World Day of Prayer will be at 1 p.m. March 7 at First Presbyterian Church in Jackson.
Combs presented the call to prayer and self-denial program.
Klaproth closed the meeting with a reading from the prayer calendar.
A stone soup luncheon was served following the meeting.
