New McKendree UMW

New McKendree United Methodist Women met Tuesday in the church fellowship hall with 23 members present. The meeting was called to order by Mary Klaproth, president, after which the UMW Purpose was recited by the unit.

The minutes of the previous general meeting and Mission Team meeting were read by Pam Buck, secretary, and approved as read. Marilyn Fronabarger gave the treasurer's report.

Chairperson reports:

Secretary of program resources: Edith Eggers reported that two new books have been added to the library for the reading program.

Social action: Klaproth reminded us that February is Call to Prayer and Self-Denial month and March will be for the food pantry.

Education and interpretation: Shirley Patterson highlighted two articles from the "Response" magazine.

Membership, nurture and outreach: Bonnie Blechle reminded members to send cards to friendship members and to let her know when other cards need to be sent.

Bereavement meals: Blechle reported that her committee had served three meals.

Wesleyan Circle won the attendance Mission Ribbon. They hosted the Jackson Manor birthday party Feb. 3 and members-at-large will host the party March 3.

The next go team fish fry will be held Saturday. The UMW will sponsor a bake sale at the same time.

New McKendree will host the Lenten Cluster Service Feb. 22 at the High Street location. Refreshments will be served and circle assignments were made.

UMW Weekend will be observed April 18 and 19 with Karen Nothdurft delivering the message. Persons will again be given the opportunity to burn the Mission Candle in honor or memory of someone at a cost of $25.54 per minute. Circles need to submit names of those who have been members of New McKendree UMW for 50 years.

The Conference Spiritual Growth Retreat will be held in Columbia, Missouri, April 24 and 25. Registration is $35.

Church Women United World Day of Prayer will be held March 6 at New McKendree. New McKendree UMW will serve refreshments and circle assignments were made.

The Mission Team recommended that the UMW participate in the 100-mile yard sale again this year May 21 through 23. It will be held at the High Street location.

The spring district meeting will be March 21 at the Caruthersville, Missouri, United Methodist Church.

Julie Combs presented the Call to Prayer and Self-Denial program.

A stone soup luncheon followed, hosted by the Mission Team.
