Council of Garden Clubs
President Barbara Blanchard opened the Council of Garden Clubs' first quarterly meeting for 2003 on Jan. 9, at Centenary United Methodist Church. Ten officers and representatives were present.
Each member present received a written agenda of the meeting. Nancy Baker read the minutes of the October 2002 meeting. Edna Ruth Fischer gave the treasurer's report. Both were accepted as read. New yearbooks are in and will be given to club presidents to be distributed.
Arbor Day chairman Nadine Davis announced that the council would plant a tree at Jefferson School on Arbor Day, April 1. Members are urged to attend. A report on the flower show was given by Blanchard. The judges gave five evaluations on the show. It was well done and attendance was up from last year. The judges commented that it was a high-scoring flower show.
Davis requested pictures from anyone who has them to be used for her "Book of Evidence" that must be sent to the state officers.
Blanchard reported on the Capaha Park Rose Garden. A board of directors will be organized and more information will be available as it evolves. Suggestions were made to contact men's clubs for help with rose garden maintenance. Men and women who like to garden are needed and don't have to be a member of a garden club to help. For more information, call Blanchard at 334-5659. The club wants to establish more interest in the community to keep the Capaha Park Rose Garden beautiful.
The "Spring Fling" luncheon held last year was thoroughly enjoyed by members and guests. By popular request, another one will be held April 5 from noon to 2 p.m. More details will be available at a later date.
The council would like to express its appreciation to Centenary United Methodist Church for all the courtesy extended to them.
