The Nancy Hunter Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution met Jan. 28 at Cape Girardeau Public Library.
Charlotte Slinkard, regent, opened the meeting. Carolyn Webb, vice regent, read the January 2015 NSSDAR President General's message and Slinkard read the National Defense Committee report, "Homeless Veterans Need Our Support."
Kaye Hamblin introduced Dr. Robert Hamblin, who presented the program, "My Life with Faulkner and Brodsky." He was presented with an Outstanding Program Certificate.
Sue LeBruyere, secretary, read the minutes of the November 2014 meeting, and Karen Ruth Lang. treasurer, gave the financial report. Catherine Gaither, registrar, reported that the chapter has three new members. Elizabeth "Beth" Glaus recently transferred from the Descendants of 76 Chapter in the District of Columbia. New members by application are Donna Shivelbine Grantham and Kay Shivelbine Davidson of Dallas, Texas. Sharon Shelton was a guest.
Slinkard, Webb and Lang were elected delegates to represent the chapter at the MSSDAR State Conference in St. Louis to be held April 9-12.
The next meeting, a reception for DAR Good Citizens from area high schools will be Feb. 25 at the Cape Girardeau Public Library.
An executive board meeting followed the chapter meeting.
The Xi Nu Phi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met Tuesday at the home of Debbie Balsano. Susan Benton, president, conducted the meeting with eight members present.
The minutes of the last meeting were approved. Information was received from international about a new endowment fund and a vote was taken on whether to support this effort.
Committee reports were received and appropriate action taken.
The Valentine themed "wacky dinner" was hosted by Lambda Omicron. Final preparations were made for the Valentine celebration that Xi Nu Phi will host for the other chapters in the Cape Girardeau area.
The next meeting will be Tuesday at the home of Tammy Hahs.
