St. Mary CWC

St. Mary Council of Catholic Women met Nov. 18 in the Monsignor Huels room of the parish office building after a memorial service for deceased members.

It was decided to donate money for the purchase of altar supplies for the church. Diane Schaefer, vice president, reported sending 13 birthday cards and three get-well cards. Commission reports were given. One bereavement dinner was served in the past month.

Hazel Blank announced that dues for Church Women United are now $5 and are to be paid by Hospitality Day, Jan. 23. Shoes for Orphans will be collected until April. Dolores Pobst led the closing prayer.

The Christmas dinner and meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Monsignor Huels room.

Oak Ridge After-School 4-H

The Oak Ridge After-School 4-H Club met Dec. 1 in the Oak Ridge Elementary School library with 21 members and two leaders present. Dakota Oehl presided over the meeting. Josh Daume and Madison LeGrand led the songs and Clay and Tyler Maintz led the pledges.

The club will take a field trip to the Salvation Army today and will start a space project in January.

Janelle Myers, Jake LeGrand and Lance Lukefahr gave a project report.

Alpha Mu Master

The Alpha Mu Master Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met at the home of Linda Metheny with Mary Schwab serving as co-hostess. Metheny presided over the meeting.

A report was given about Exemplar Preceptor Night held at the Elks Lodge on Nov. 18. The club had 13 members present.

A chapter contribution will be sent to Toybox and Christmas for the Elderly.

The chapter will have a "Breakfast in a Bag" at the home of Vicki McKinney at 10 a.m. Jan. 1.

It was announced that the next 2005 convention meeting will be held Dec. 20 and that the next city council meeting will be held Jan. 17.

The program for the evening was presented by Joyce Hays. She spoke on the many places she has visited. She also read assorted short stories and excerpts from "Journey through Heartsongs" by Mattie J.T. Stepanek.

The next meeting will be at the home of Judie Herbst for the annual chapter Christmas dinner and gift exchange.

Hobbs Chapel UMW

The Hobbs Chapel United Methodist Women will donate $722 to the church elevator fund and will join the Third Street UMW and Maple Avenue UMW to form a covenant with Mozambique to support a pastor for a year.

In December, Hobbs Chapel choir will be joined by the UMW members to sing Christmas carols at nursing homes. The UMW will also sponsor a tree decorated with caps and gloves for needy children and will bring toys to be donated to needy children through the Marine Corps League.

Officers were elected for 2005.

The next meeting will be the Christmas party to be held at the pastor's home.

Nancy Hunter NSDAR

The Nancy Hunter Chapter NSDAR met Dec. 1 in the Hirsch Room at Cape Girardeau Public Library. Sharon Rowland, regent, led the group in the rituals. The minutes were read and approved. Co-hostesses were Carolyn Geittmann and Jeannine McGinnis.

Roger Brown, president of group information of Operation Troop Support, was guest speaker. He told about all the care packages the group was packing to send to members of the 1140th National Guard battalion in Iran.

The chapter is to send in the names of its 50-year members to receive recognition to Missouri State Society of the Daughters of American Revolution. There are three members who have reached that mark, Mary Francis Hunter Kinder, Marjorie Groves Mills and Pat Fuson Strom. The group is also to turn in its history to state from the beginning, which was Feb. 12, 1901, to the present.

A Christmas party for female veterans at the Missouri Veterans Home will be held at 2 p.m. today.

Delegates to go to 106th Missouri State Conference are Dorothy Points and Kathy Tolson with four alternates, Mary Lou Lett, Irene Popp, Ruth Lang and Patsy Robert. These same delegates will attend the 114th Continental Congress in Washington, D.C.

The next meeting will be Jan. 26 at the library with Clarence W. Suedekum as guest speaker.

Lamplighters FCE

Lamplighters FCE Club met Nov. 18 at the home of Dorothy Hahs. The hostess gave the devotional "Saturday Morning."

Food items were collected for the club's adopted family. A turkey and ham for Thanksgiving were included.

Members volunteered to attend the spring leadership training sessions to be held in March.

A donation was agreed upon to help refurbish a facility for the 4-H displays at the SEMO District Fair.

Verla Mangels gave a report on a trip to Branson and the Christmas shows she attended with other members of FCE district clubs.

Sharon Bogenpohl gave a program on candle making.

The next meeting will be at the home of JoAnn Hahs on Dec. 16.

New Salem UMW

The New New Salem United Methodist Women of Daisy met on Dec. 1 with 11 members present at the Branding Iron Restaurant in Jackson for a meal at which spouses were invited.

The meeting was called to order by Jackie Kurre, president. A discussion on serving a dinner again for the Vigertone Company was held. A date will be set later.

The new officers were installed by Collen Lukefahr. They are Dorothy Hahs, president; Shirley Grebe, vice president; Betty Hahs, secretary; Roberta Seabaugh, treasurer; and Barbara Brown, reporter.

Secret pal names were drawn for the coming year and gifts were exchanged.

The devotional was presented by Margie Roberts.
