John Ghild Chapter NSDAR

Dr. Joel Rhodes gave the program on the history of the Vietnam war and how it affected the children of that generation at the Nov. 19 meeting of the John Guild Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, which was held at Delmonico's Restaurant in Jackson. He is in the process of writing a book on this topic, which is expected to be available in 2016.

Other guests included many of the past commanders and their wives of the Jackson American Legion Post 158.

Hostesses were Kay Burford, Pam Friedrich and Linda Hutson.

The next regular meeting will be held at 1 p.m. Dec. 17 at the Riverside Regional Library in Jackson.

Xi Nu Phi

Xi Nu Phi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met Tuesday at the home of Cindy Propst. Eight members present.

The minutes from the last meeting were approved with one correction.

The chapter will continue to collect items for the chapter scrapbook.

Secret sister gifts were distributed and opened.

Plans continue to be made for the Valentine brunch that the chapter will host for all the other Beta Sigma Phi chapters.

It was decided that a monetary donation would be made to the Hahs family from Jackson, who have twins in the NICU in a St. Louis hospital.

The group will be attending "A Christmas Carol" at the River Campus on Thursday.

A cookie exchange was held with each member going home with a wonderful assortment of three dozen cookies.

The next meeting will be at the home of Debbie Balsano on Dec 16. It will be the annual Christmas party. Remember to bring your secret pal gift, an appetizer or dessert and a gift to play "steal from your neighbor."

St. Mary Cathedral CCW

The St. Mary Council of Catholic Women met Nov. 20 in the Huels Room.

The Rev. Allan Saunders opened the meeting with prayer. The memorial service for deceased members was led by Brenda Kuhn.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.

Attendance: Mary Buxton, co-president; Pat Steinkamp, vice-president; Pat Eftink, treasurer; Imelda Nenninger, secretary; were present. Donna Simonton, co-president, was absent.

Treasurer's report: Steinkamp distributed copies of the treasurer's report.

Commission reports: Service, Nancy King announced Donut Sunday will be discontinued due to observance of CCW Sunday since it was not well attended.

Leadership: Diane Schaefer announced the group had note cards from the previous year's craft sale.

Spiritual: Brenda Kuhn attended a Diocesan planning meeting Nov. 19, held at St. Mary Cathedral.

Judy Stricker requested prayers for Jackie Schmidt's grandson, who has serious medical problems.

Dolores Gibbar reported one bereavement dinner was served.

Final plans were made for the craft and bake sale to be held Dec. 6 and 7.

A letter was received from Justin Keusenkothen, a student at Franciscan University in Steubenville, regarding a donation for the university's mission trip to Bellcour, North Dakota Chippewa Reservation.

The Christmas party will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Huels Room. PCCW will furnish fried chicken. Members should bring their choice of covered dish. Instead of a gift exchange, bring a gift or donation for Birthright.

Gail Timpe and Kathy Landewee provided the refreshments.
